Hello!
My husband and I are both new to this group. He’s been using the
Disetonic pump for 3 weeks now, and one of his biggest frustrations
has been how to wear the pump.
So far, he has been clipping the pump to his belt and wearing
oversized shirts out over the pump. This presents challenges for
him, especially when in the washroom, where he says he’s dropped his
pump on several occasions.
At night while sleeping, he wears a t-shirt with front pocket or
shorts with big pockets. This has worked well, except when he gets
the tubing caught on things (like the dog).
President Bush’s decision to allow only funding for research
involving stem cell lines already extracted from embryos has
relatively little support. Even among those who indicated that they
voted for Bush most do not agree with his decision.
The key point of contention involves whether or not to fund research
that involves extracting stem-cells from the hundreds of thousands of
frozen embryos that were created as part of attempts at in-vitro
fertilization. Those embryos are now considered surplus and are now
stored in liquid nitrogen. They are eventually to be discarded.
Most who disagree with Bush’s decision feel that frozen embryos that
were to eventually be discarded anyway are fit subjects for medical
research. This position was taken publicly (prior to Bush’s
announcement) by a number of prominent abortion opponents such as

Does anyone know where I can find a pocket carbohydrate calculator? I
will be going on the pump next week and with all the information I am
getting it sounds like I need a calculator.
Thank you

Hello All,
Its been about five weeks since my daughter started on her
pump. She just got home from diabetes camp last night. She had an Endo
apt first thing this morning. Her last HA1c was 9.9 .Today it was
_7.6_ !!!!!!!
Next week is her 9th yr aniversary w/diabetes-she’s 11yrs
old, and she has NEVER been that low !
What a wonderful AM. I couldn’t wait to share the news
with all of you who wave been so helpful.
You’re the best,
Doreen
Dear Joan the lurker
I’ve been a DMer for 15 years, and I’ve been on various different
birthcontrol pills for the last 5 and the BEST type (no weight gain; no
moodiness, apart from the usual;no other side effects for me) has been
Micronor, it’s a mini-pill produced by Janssen-Cilag and contains 350 mcg.
of Norethisterone. Both my General Practice doctor and my Endo, and my CDE
think that it’s the best for anyoen with diabetes…give it a go! You do
have to take it at the same time every day, but I think that that is easier
for us DMers than for non-DMers.
Cheers
Nicola
Hi!
Am I making this up, or is the latest word on birth control pills and
DM that a low-dose pill is ok, barring high blood pressure or heart
disease? I have fibroids that make bleeding really heavy, and my gyne
said that if I WASN’T diabetic, he would put me on the pill in a
heartbeat, but that with DM the risks of stroke or heart attack are
too high already, and he isn’t willing to add it into the mix. Of
course, being on the pill would also solve my difficulty with going on
methotrexate for arthritis, as pregnancy is CONTRAINDICATED in that
case! Anyhow, I appreciate your input! And I thought that the
recommendations had been changed recently…..any comments?
Thanks
The past year I notice that before and during menstration, my eyesight becomes
more burry and I get "floaters"..also fell pressure. Even with normal BGS this
happens. I asked the Dr. at my last eye exam a few months ago and he just
shrugged it off like it was "normal". I have had laser on both eyes three times
during pregnancy and am really concerned about this damaging my sight further.
Has anyone had anything similar?

If you want an H-A1c around 6, what would that equate to in BG
numbers? I’ve been reading the Type2 group, and some of them have it
around the 4s and 5s! I thought that would be too low, like 50 mg/dl
or so.
Any ideas?

Anybody using Novolog in their pumps yet. I here people are having good success
with it. Especially children.
