I’ve been lurking!

Hi All

I have been lurking since March of this year. I have had Type 1
diabetes for 35 years and I am told I have done very well. But, I
want to do better. When I heard about the insulin pump I asked my
internal medicine doctor if I would be a good candidate. Since then,
March 2001, I have been waiting to hear if I have been approved. I
am soooooo ready. I have done the preliminaries; met with a pump
trainer, found an endo, and met with a nutritionist.

I finally heard from Mini Med last week. They told me when they get
the prescription from my endo the wait should only be 4 to 6 weeks.

After lurking all summer, I feel I can do this. I did read Pumping
Insulin by John Walsh. That really explained a lot.

I understand the training will last 3 days. I am saving vacation
time for that.

I am married and have two children who both moved out last August. I
have survived that so far, so a pump should be a walk in the park.
My son is 25 and my daughter will be 22 on Halloween. Spooky, huh?

I’ll still be lurking, but will find participating to be fun too.

    Hi Christine, and welcome. I, too, am more a reader than a participant,
    mostly due to the fact that most questions I have about my new pump,
    April 26, 2001, are usually answered somewhere in this conference. I
    haven’t had a lot of trouble with the pump, and I am one who will say,
    "Why wasn’t my doctor more receptive to my questions about pumping YEARS
    AGO?" Like you, I did a lot of research, from last August to April, and
    I was r-e-a-d-y in spades. The pump has not been a disappointment.
    Yeah!!
