wow! you went on the pump that quickly after diagnoses??
I was a big pansy... took me like 8 years to get up the courage to try it. Now
I'm beginning to wonder why I waited so long :)

Simone,

I also wear the Disetronic...the D-Tron. I usually wear it clipped to my
pocket...with the pump on the inside (for jeans, casual pants, shorts). I have
the medium-length tubing. That way when you goes to the washroom and have to
pull your pants down, you can pull them down far enough. Whereas, if you use
short tubing you may drop his pump or pull on the set. If I wear a suit or dress
pants, I usually just clip it to my waistband.

If your husband doesn't want the pump to show, he can put it in a pocket, cut a
small slit in the top of the pocket lining, and run the tubing through. My
Disetronic rep carries some pump holders (not made by Disetronic, but by
somebody he knows). You can clip it to your waistband (with the pump under your
clothes) or clip it to the outside of your underwear. The holders are made out
of nylon strap...you can bolus and/or confirm errors right through your clothes,
<!--more-->
if you leave the buttons facing outward. He uses this thing all the time with
his suits. You can ask your local D rep if he knows anything about these things.

Hello!

My husband and I are both new to this group. He's been using the
Disetonic pump for 3 weeks now, and one of his biggest frustrations
has been how to wear the pump.

So far, he has been clipping the pump to his belt and wearing
oversized shirts out over the pump. This presents challenges for
him, especially when in the washroom, where he says he's dropped his
pump on several occasions.

At night while sleeping, he wears a t-shirt with front pocket or
shorts with big pockets. This has worked well, except when he gets
the tubing caught on things (like the dog).

What I think will work best for him, in conjunction with shorter
tubing, is something he can wear comfortably under his shirts, that
will help conceal the pump without compromising his ability to get to
it when he needs to. We tried the fabric belt that came with the
pump, but he wasn't thrilled with that.

How do all of you deal with "where" to wear the pump????

Thank you in advance for your comments and ideas.

Simone Kentish

Welcome Simone & Hubby!

I think figuring out where & how to wear the pump is very individual, but
here is what I do. I use the MiniMed pump and usually clip it my waist
(shirt in or out - doesn't matter) and let the tubing dangle down inside my
short/pant leg or skirt. Some shorts and jeans have a little square pocket
"inside" one of the regular pockets. Without the clip, my pump usually fits
perfectly. Sometimes I also just clip the pump to the inside of my pocket
(pump in, clip out). And, of course there's always inside the bra like Joan
mentioned! ;-)

During the night, I just lay the pump on the bed next to me. Sometimes I
wake up with it under me, but I don't generally get tangled. YMMV!

Connie - pumping 4 1/2 months!

Hi Simone: welcome to you and your hubby.
Well....he can't wear a bra....so that's out.....it's my usual place.
I got the heavier clip from Disetronic, which I use when bra is not on, I
didn't like the black leather case that came with it, it didn't hold. The
pump salesman that I met actually wears it in his pants pocket.....punches a
hole thru his pocket to thread the tubing through.
If you sew, like me, a small double seam in the pocket, a small velcro button
to secure it and it should work!
I use the velcro computer cable ties to make my tubing slack loops. I tried
tape and stuff, but found that if I cut the velcro strip in half, got 2 for
the price of one. Wind up the extra tubing, and secure the loop with the
velcro. Keeps the tubing from getting caught, and I prefer the longer
administration sets. Allows me to rotate to a lot of alternate sites. Hope
this helps...Joan:)

Simone, why conceal it? I just wear mine on my belt with my shirttail tucked
in, and most people just think it's a pager. In fact, I had somebody ask once
if I was a dr., because they saw "Minimed" on it and thought it was some
special medical pager!

As far as sleeping, what I do is clip the pump to the front of my shorts (I'm
a side sleeper, btw) and then what I do is to roll the tubing into a little
circle and tuck in under the elastic. It's out of the way, and doesn't get
caught on anything because nothing is sticking out.
