Another Gyne questions - DM related

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Hi!

Am I making this up, or is the latest word on birth control pills and
DM that a low-dose pill is ok, barring high blood pressure or heart
disease? I have fibroids that make bleeding really heavy, and my gyne
said that if I WASN’T diabetic, he would put me on the pill in a
heartbeat, but that with DM the risks of stroke or heart attack are
too high already, and he isn’t willing to add it into the mix. Of
course, being on the pill would also solve my difficulty with going on
methotrexate for arthritis, as pregnancy is CONTRAINDICATED in that
case! Anyhow, I appreciate your input! And I thought that the
recommendations had been changed recently…..any comments?

Thanks

EYE question

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

The past year I notice that before and during menstration, my eyesight becomes
more burry and I get "floaters"..also fell pressure. Even with normal BGS this
happens. I asked the Dr. at my last eye exam a few months ago and he just
shrugged it off like it was "normal". I have had laser on both eyes three times
during pregnancy and am really concerned about this damaging my sight further.
Has anyone had anything similar?

BG equivalent of H-A1c’s

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

If you want an H-A1c around 6, what would that equate to in BG
numbers? I’ve been reading the Type2 group, and some of them have it
around the 4s and 5s! I thought that would be too low, like 50 mg/dl
or so.
Any ideas?

anyone experience this before?

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

I just changed out my site and it wouldn’t stop bleeding! In fact it is
still bleeding now 10 minutes later. Is that weird or what? Just wondering
if anyone has ever experienced this before? I have it packed in gauze right
now. Hope it stops soon. –Jeana Ü

new non-pumper w. Type1

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Hi - I’ve been looking for a newsgroup for Type 1 diabetics, but
there aren’t any that are very active. So I thought I’d join just
for the other discussions on complications, new technologies, and
other things we have in common.

I’ve had Type1 diabetes for about 25 years now, since I was 8 and 1/2
years old - not long before Halloween! But I was a strange kid
anyway, not liking most candy.

Since then I’ve battled compulsive eating, and trying to stay on a
meal plan of sorts (Still haven’t tho.) –
I use Ultralente and Humalog - one unit for each 15 - 20 grams of
carbohydrate.

a reminder

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

I have been meaning to give a reminder to the list. If you are having some
problems that don’t seem to fit into our regular test look into sleep apnea.
If you have headaches, find yourself falling asleep or feeling very sleepy
when watching TV, driving, during a meeting, if you have irregular
heatbeats, kicking while sleeping, some one has told you that you stop
breathing or make loud noises while sleeping, PLEASE go for a sleep study.

Sleep apnea is most often diagnosed by the person and NOT the doctor. It
can be fatal.
