You folks are great!

Good morning All,
It’s so nice to see so much support and suggestions for
making my daughters life easier and better. The time you all take to
post makes me feel better too.
We’re still adjusting her basal rates trying to get
everything evened out. I finally took her to camp today. She needs to
do kid things. Anyway , I spoke with the nurse and her counselors
about limiting her activity [just running around camp on the hottest
day of the summer is enough for now ]and said I would be back at
lunch and again to drive her home at the end of the day. Then I had
some errands to do I got home and there was a frantic message from
the camp nurse. I was to call her right away because an alarm on the
pump was going off and she[the nurse ] was totally freaked out. This
aparently started about 20 minutes after I left the camp!
Well my child being just so smart, with all of these

crazed adults running around just picked up the phone and called the
toll free # on the back of the pump and asked Animas what to do.They
walked her through all the steps she needed to stop the alarm-that no
one knows why it was going off-and then she called her Dad. [Why is
it they always call the mother first?]He said everyone was so
impressed at how well she handled the whole thing and things seem to
be ok for now.I’m sure the nurse is mad at me big time.
Thanks for listening. I gotta go to camp and get yelled
at by the nurse in a little while.
Take Care,
Doreen

    Doreen,
Why will they yell at you? For leaving? Had they expected you to stay? For an
unknown alarm? That’s not your fault. Hey, I think your dtr. sounds very
capable of handling a situation. Good for her - level headed and knowing to
make a toll-free call. I’ve nown some who have had that happen and write to a
list for help at 3:00 a.m. hoping someone is awake to advise them.

Let us know how the *encounter* goes. ;)

Hi Doreen: best thing to do, is get camp nurse in to meet the CDE and learn
about troubleshooting the pump. Either that, or call Animas, and ask them to
send one of the manuals that comes with the pump so Nurse can learn and have

a resource too. Yelling accomplishes nothing other than her venting fear and
    frustration….this coming from another Nurse….Joan:)

Sounds like you have done a good job Doreen, making your daughter informed
and independent enough to handle the crisis herself. I bet the nurse is
afraid you will be mad at her. If everything was taken care of another
message should of be left on your message taker stating everything was ok.
