Frank,

Jan asked me to e-mail you. She is having PC problems and is boxing it
up to take to Best Buy for repairs. Since she won’t have web access
until she can get to a library, she requests that you put her "no mail"
for now. Thank you.

Connie

Jan, thanks…

….for talking to Vicky.I posted to her last night and felt so bad
that I couldn’t do more. She sounds really upset. It’s obvious she
doesn’t have a very good health care team. Now she has you and the
rest of this great group. One thing that I may have misunderstood was
if she is using NPH or Humalog w/the pump.I thought she said NPH and
that made no sense to me.Vicky, I don’t mean to talk about you rather
than to you, it’s just that Jan really has this stuff down cold! I’m
only two weeks into it.
BTW, My daughter is doing fine, not perfect but good. She
goes to sleep away diabetes camp on Sunday for almost two weeks .Yes,
baby yes. I know they will do a wonderful job w/her and our new best
$5000 friend, the pump.
Take care all- Vicky hang on and listen to these
people!
Doreen

See Vicky…

When will this go away???

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

I posted this to misc.health.diabetes before I found this group. I’d
like to post it here too to see if I could possibly get more help….

I’m a type 1 diabetic — have been for over 27 years now. Brittle
diabetic. A1c’s of 11 or 12. For less than a week now, I’ve been on
a pump, and I feel _horrible_. When will this go away??

Prior to getting on the pump, I was using 63 units of NPH as my
basal. To be conservative, my doctor set me up with a 43.2 unit
basal at first (she also has me shooting for 150 so that I could
gradually bring my levels down to near normal). On the second day of
the pump, my bgs took a nose dive, and haven’t come up. I’m eating
like a horse to try and get over 100 (and having to turn the pump off
before going to bed so that I can get some sleep and not find myself
waking up with my face in the glucose tabs and a bg of 50). My

I was so overwhelmed by the response i really appreciate everyone’s
support and encouragement.
Before this summer you know i haven’t even considered switching to
the pump mainly out of my desire to have things just as they are
which i guess makes me lazy..lol
However i have been able to see how kids use the pump and i saw some
of them change their sites and i was so impressed.
I have seen all the information on pumps for years and i always
though being on shots was easier but as i have been able to spend
time with some diabetic kids this summer i have been changed.
My wife has tried to convince me to get one for the last few years
and now im finally saying you know this sound good and she is so
happy you’d think she was getting the pump..lol
Only real thing that bothers me is when i do things like going
swimming and having to take it off and losing it or accidentally

Which PUMP?

I’ll be pumping before the summer is over. I know Mini-Med is most
popular but would like to hear about others as well as the 508.
Thanks, Ken

Marcus,

Message #4808 includes them to make it easier for you. (~_^)

another YES for Marcus

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Marcus, your question sounded like mine last year — I started taking
shots at age 3, and at 41 was still perfectly happy with them. Good
A1c’s, no complications, everything fine. So why go through all the
hassle of switching to a pump?

I just thought it might be worth investigating, same as you — and heard
raves from everyone on the list, same as you. Figured I might as well
try it.

But — big warning, here — I almost didn’t stay with it during the
first month. Why? "No complications, everything fine" isn’t much of an
incentive to change a lifelong habit.

I did wind up sticking with the pump, solely because of all the support
on here, but keep in mind that it might be a little harder to hit the

New not on pump but considering one.

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

Ive just joined the group today after my wife suggested that maybe
joining a email list would help me make up my mind.
Im 31 and have had Diabetes since age 2 and have been happy on the
shots however over the last few months i have been wondering if maybe
i would be happier on the pump.I have been working with kids with
diabetes about 70% of whom are on the pump and where alot of the
staff who have diabetes are on it too.
I was offered the pump years ago but my insurance at the time didn’t
cover it and i knew no one on it and i always thought being on shots
is so much easier.
The last few months observing how easy it is and gaining an idea of
how my diabetes managenment can be even more simple.
The only effect that im worried about is how im going to react not
giving myself shots it’s so much apart of my daily routine im worried
that it’s going to hard switching after 29 years of doing one thing
