insulin pump and infections

Hi,
My name is Kathy and I am having alot of infections at the site where
my tubing is inserted. It is in my stomach. I have gone the routes that
I’m supposed to do,cleansing with antibacterial soap and ivprep. For
some reason things are not going well for me at this time. Could someone
give me suggestion as to how I can stop this ? I already am on 500 mg.
of antibiotic called keflex. I am becoming very upset with all of this
because I can not seem to get this cleared up. Thanks .

I had a period of quite a few infections when I started pumping. It got to
the point that I took myself off the pump out of frustration. I didn’t like
being off either so went back on. I would invariably infect one site to
another. I’m not sure how I did it because I tried to make everything
(hands, site, etc)clean. Turns out MM had just switched the adhesives on
their sets and I ended up having an allergy to the new adhesive. My body
reacted by getting infections. Since switching to the MM Silhouettes, I’ve
done much better. I think you have to try different sets to see which one
is the best for you. Also, I find that occasionally when I leave a set in
too long, I get that twinge of pain and know an infection is starting. I
immediate change it and put a dab of Neosporin on the hole I took the canula
out of to prevent it from growing into a full fledge infection. I know how
frustrating it can be. Hang in there. Love, Jeana Ü

    Kathy,
Do not use the abdomen for sites until the infection is
gone. You might be inadvertently transferring the germs. Try
your upper hip area or upper outer thigh. Find out if you
are a staph carrier. A nose swab will find that out. Do not
breathe on the site after cleaning. Wear a mask if you have
to do that. You might need to use Betadine swabs to clean
the skin. After applying it, let it dry, then use an
alcohol pad to remove the betadine. Be careful, it can stain
    your clothes.
    Good luck.

    Kathy,
How long are you leaving a set in? I tend to get infection if i leave a set in
over 4 says. I also tend to get infection if I or my wife bumps the site alot.
My CDE says that if it hurts .. something is wrong, so change sets.
