Hi Gang: thought you might like to check out the info....Joan:)
The discussions about whether aspirin blocks Ace inhibitors continue. The
Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine www.ccjm.org has a nice review in the
June issue.

His cautious conclusion acknowledges that aspirin does interfere with ACE
inhibitors but that if you stay below 100 mg/day you are ok.

My concern is that it is easy to watch blood pressure to see if there is
interference but it is not easy to watch for problems of kidney
failure. Now that we have l-arginine to prevent heart disease and stroke,
we do not need aspirin.

I have two backup schemes; first fall back on my old 506 which is awaiting use
in the standby mode, with the basal rate set to zero to conserve battery power,
or second, use two shots of Lente (about 9.6 units twice a day, which sort of
matches my basal rate) and use Humilog according to the carb rules. Worked
fine the two times I did this....

Incidentally, Minimed says that when I upgrade to the 508 I can keep the 507, so
I will have two backup pumps....

It surprises me that an endo would encourage going back to using N. I wouldn't
that long-acting, unpredictable insulin in my system again. It can overlap
onto the day you go back to pumping. I'd prefer the Regular/Velosulin every
4-5 hrs. with Humalog boluses. That's my humble opinion which I highly
respect. (~_^)

Sheena,
In almost 20 yrs. of pumping, I have never had one stop and had to get a
loaner. I sure hope it never happens. Glad you got your 508 back on.
Gail

>Ahhh, Its good to be alive, AND BACK ON THE PUMP!

Chrissy, this should have been covered in your pump training. Ask your Dr. or
CDE.

<<<I was always wondering what I would do if my pump malfunctioned >>>>

Maybe it is best to discuss it with your educator in the event it does
happen, it is good to have a Plan B just in case.
I have been putting off going off the pump for a while now and I just
received some new sets from Disetronic, I'm going to give them a try before
making a decision to go off the pump for a few months. My sites have not
been great lately, it is hit or miss. I sat down with the educator to map
out a plan to use Lantus instead of the pump. I'm dreading the switch but
for the long term it may do my body good.

Ahhh, Its good to be alive, AND BACK ON THE PUMP!

That was not fun at all. I'll tell ya!

I got my pump in the mail this morning around 9:30 and now I am back on :)
im soo happy. And I think even more greatful that I have the pump. I think I
am going to keep the one I got in the mail. ^-^

Yes after I got off the phone with minimed they told me I should call my
doctor, so my doctor and I figured out all the insuiln I should do. It all
worked out for the most part.. not as great as the pump (but hey what is?).

Its weird how much we take that lil box for granted, U never know when one
day U go to push (sel) and it restarts will happen, or anything else that
happens to it. :-D
<!--more-->

I surived mm508 withdraw. :)

<< So from 6 o'clock last night, every 2 hrs I had to test and every 3
hrs I have to do a shot (for my basal, because i have no long acting
insulin.
>>

I was always wondering what I would do if my pump malfunctioned and I was w/o
one for a couple of days. How did you know what to do? Did you call your
doctor? How did you know how much insulin to take? I hope all works out for
you? Chrissy
