DIABETES AND HEART DISEASE

Hi All,

In May I switched to a diabetes specialist (Joslin program)
endocrynologist. He recommended the pump for me and I started
pumping on June 19; I love it!!! I am using about 1/2 the insulin I
was using before, and my control, awful before, is excellent now.

He also noted that I hadn’t had a stress test in over six years and,
even though I was having no problems or symptoms, he suggested that I
get another, just as a precaution. Well…… I failed it!!! A
heart catheterization then showed that I had arteries blocked 100%,
90%, and 60%, and they did triple bypass surgery the next day (July
6). My recovery so far is going pretty well.

As diabetics, because we have diminished nerve functioning we quite

often do not feel the tightness and chest pain symptomatic of heart
disease. I may not have known about the problem until the killer
heart attack hit. I firmly believe that my Doc’s concern here saved
my life.

So, my message is this: IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD A STRESS TEST RECENTLY…
PLEASE GET ONE ASAP!!!!!!

** I am age 56, have had dm for 22 years. Use Minimed 508
** My Doc is a pumper; he had triple bypass surgery five years ago.

Thank God for your new doctor!!! I am so glad to hear that your recovery is
    going well!!

Isn’t it amazing how your insulin amount decreases but your control gets
better! I too decreased my insulin amounts by 50% and my control is better
    than it has ever been!

Best wishes for continued success with your pump and your recovery!!

    Chera

All I can say about your post is WOW!!! Thank God for that doctor. Also
glad your responding well to the pump. I’m 46 do you think I should do it
yet? How do you know when? I’ve never had one done. What do they do? You
are lucky he caught it. I cant believe how much blockage you had and were
still functioning. How long were you in the hospital for? How long does
recuperation take? Sorry for all the questions but…..sometimes diabetes is
too real for me. I try not to think about all the things that can happen to
me. I have been a diabetic for 34yrs now. It scares me when I think of all
the things that can happen. I try to live for the moment. Granted Im not in
denial or anything. I do the best I can to take care of myself. But….if I
think to much about the reality of it all it can be quite overwhelming. Any
    advice for me? Thanks. Chrissy

Wish you a sppedy and healthy recovery and long life. My stress test was good,
however, they said I was borderline anemic. Waiting for the paper work to go
through on the MM508. And so, the story begins…my best to all. Jim
