Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful info from
the group about my daughter. She had her insulin hook-up yesterday and
all is going well so far. We’ve had a few lows but nothing we can’t
handle. I’m sure that now we ARE pumping , I’ll have tons more q’s in
the weeks to come.

loaner vs refurbished

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

When my MM508 died a few months ago, I wanted it back after
refurbishment — only because of sentimental value, figuring we’d been
through a lot together <g>. But because I wasn’t sure whether they’d
actually send back the same one, I copied down the serial number before
shipping it to MM.

They returned one that looked the same, but the serial number now ended
with a G rather than a 5 (or some such variation). I called and they
said "that means it’s been refurbished, but it’s still your original."

Once I had it hooked up, I recognized the original’s pace and sound –
just a tad different from the loaner and from the one my CDE lent me
until the loaner arrived. It was good having my old friend back!

Laurie, who can’t think of any reason to request the original EXCEPT

Wide support for stem-cell research in Lottopol P

Friday, January 26th, 2007

oll

Even among those who say they are pro-life regarding the abortion
issue there are more who favor government funding for stem-cell
research.(26.95%) than there are those who would ban such research.
(23.35%). A significant number of those who say they are pro-life
regarding the abortion would permit stem-cell research,(25.75%) but
would not favor government funding. Those who would permit stem-cell
research but oppose government funding may me motivated by fiscal
policy concerns rather that ethical or religious considerations.

The participants were asked the question:
What is your opinion on stem-cell research where material from
discarded embryos may be used to cure diseases such as diabetes and
Alzheimer’s?

Battery cross reference

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

I saw this battery cross reference while searching for cheaper batteries. These
should work for the MMT-104 from MiniMed. If anyone can verify/dispute this
please do.

Lessons for the teacher/an old favorite from Diabetes Forecast

Lessons for the teacher

As a Diabetes Educator, Patients often ask me if I have diabetes. When I reply
"no," I can detect a faint look of disappointment on their
faces. It’s as if they are saying: "How can you possibly understand what it
is like to live with diabetes?"

It is a point well taken and I realized that to truly understand life with
diabetes, I would need to experience some aspects of it for myself. It
was time to step out of my educator shoes and into those of my patients.

After four years of teaching people how to manage diabetes, I felt prepared to
take on a new task. For the next month, I lived my life as if I had diabetes.

This isn’t fun!

Friday, January 19th, 2007

Oh boy,
I know you guys haven’t gone through this before. (or at least think)
Ok last night my pump desided that everytime I would press any press button
it would restart.. (the way it does when you put in new batteries). So I
call the 1 800 help line and go through everything. And then she says well
your going to have to leave the batteries out over night and if its not
working tomarrow morning (this morning) they are going to have to send me a
new one. So from 6 o’clock last night, every 2 hrs I had to test and every 3
hrs I have to do a shot (for my basal, because i have no long acting
insulin.
Oh my this hasn’t been a fun night. ^-^ I’ll keep you guys posted on like if
my pump desides to work.. Or not :-( God Bless

I removed David Bishop

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

sorry guys I did not see his original request to be removed from the list. If
someone needs a subscription or switched or be removed I do not mind doing it
but sometimes it takes a little time because I’m not on line 24 hours a day it
only seems that way. =).
