soon to pump+ new glucometer (elite XL)
Hey all,
sorry that I haven’t posted in a while. Anyway, some time this up
coming august I will be put on the insulin pump. I would have been on
it before the summer but we had a hassel with my new heath insurance,
I went from Blue Cross to an HMO. So in short my doctor wasn’t
covered by the HMO and we had to find a doctor to refer him. *I’m
glad thats almost ð
Well in other news today I received a regular shipment of testing
supplies and to my suppries I had received a free glucometer
the "Elite XL" I heard it takes the smallest sample of all
glucometers in the world. Any way I was wondering if any one else
uses The "Elite XL" and if so what do you think of it?
Well I hope this makes up for the month(s) of niglect to the group
*sorry*.

Hi Chris: welcome back!
I use the Elite XL and you can download software since it is computer
capable. Just have to buy the cable to connect to the puter.
I also use the Dex. Elite travels in the pocketbook, the Dex is home and at
work, so I can test anywhere.
I like both. The xl uses just a "little less than a spit" of blood and the
Dex not far behind that.
I give them to my patients. I do diabetes education as well as learning to
be a Nurse Practitioner.
Any questions, just ask! Joan:)

I don’t use the elite XL but I do use the Glucometer Elite, I have been
using this meter for 3+years and I love it. Every correlation that has been
done have been pretty accurate. It uses little blood and the lancets and
lancing device are pretty much pain free. I also have an accu check
complete and a fast take. I carry the elite with me every where, the fast
take stays in the desk drawer (this is my least favorite) the accu check
stays at home in the closet (too balkiy for my purse). My CDE’s opinion is
that she finds the elite or the elite XL to be the most reliable and
accurate when doing correlations. I hope that this is helpful.

hey guys! since the subject is on meters, just thought i would ask who has
the Freestyle yet??? I have had it for about a month or so and so far its
pretty great! It is soo small! and it takes a really tiny amount of blood so
thats cool. The only thing i dont like about it is that sometimes my arms
wont stop bleeding for a while but i dont notice at first so theres like
dried blood on my arms…ick! lol But i would love to hear what the rest of
you think of it if you have it!
See ya!

Stephanie

have been 60-135!!!!!!!! AHH!!!
only thing is that I am still getting used to the idea of it being attached.
For the most part im fine and dont notice but when i actually think about

Stephanie,
Congratulations on the start of your pump!! It is an awesome little device
isn’t it?! The being attached part gets easier as time goes on. I can’t
even tell that it is there most of the time anymore. I was like you at
first, the more I thought about it the more that I could feel it. Now I
love it! You could not pay me all of the money in the world to go back to
multiple injections again. My blodd sugar control is the best that it has
ever been. Keep up the good work and keep us posted on your progress!!

Try the FastTake it’s even better

Yes; I have been using the Fastake for two months now, and am sold! But
they just sent me an offer to obtain the new version (ultra?) which
reads in 5 seconds and can be used on the arm and other places. So are
they pushing this to replace the Fastake?

The Ultra also uses it’s own strip, my bet is they didn’t tell ya about
that, Huh?

*I* think the *hilarious* thing about the Ultra and the 5-second feature is
the amount of time the pumping of the lancing device takes to get the spot of
blood from the arm it needs takes away the benefit of the quick timing.
Personally, I’ll trust my Accu-Chek Complete with it’s 45 seconds and my Pen
meter at 30 seconds. It may be different (well, it is) for many others. (~_^)

No, they didn’t! So a marketing ploy wins again?
But, are there any real advantages here? It takes me 15 seconds to do the
other stuff while the thing is running, so I don’t gain a thing with 5 seconds.
No fingers? I am so used to the finger sticks, I don’t notice them at all. No
gain there, either.
But, if Medicare pays the bill, does selling the new strips help them or me? I
think it helps them, and hurts Medicare, if they cost more….

I have no problem with accuracy specifications with the well respected meters.
They all seem to perform well.
I have been using one touch for over 12 years, and never had a calibration
problem. I find that repeatability is more interesting than absolute accuracy.
If you get the same reading in two or three repeated measurements, this at least
means that the system is consistent. Then you can compensate for absolute
error. The Fast Take does an equivalent job, and since it is smaller and
faster, I like it.

I had been using the AccuChek Advantage, but my
fingers were a sore calloused mess so I switched to a
FreeStyle Meter yesterday.
It only requires a miniscule amount of blood to get a
reading and with so much arm space to choose from it’s
a real blessing…no pain or strain.
Any thoughts on this???
