Catie,
My Dad was diagnosed at age 11 so he had it b4 me. Also when I was dx it was
by a pediatrician who all he said was dont eat too much candy. Go figure. I
was never put in the hospital to learn how to do shots/diet etc. I guess
they figured my Dad would teach me. He did teach me how to take shots and
did good at that but....I never learned the correct way to eat and what to
avoid etc. Needless to say I had many years of uncontrolled diabetes and was
in the hospital ALOT!!! Thank God I dont have alot of complications. I do
have several but it could have been alot worse. Since I have been diabetic
for 33yrs now. Thank God we both survived the early years right. Take care.

Chrissy,

We have a lot in common. My dad was the only other Diabetic in my family and he
too was an alcoholic. He was DX after I was and sat me down and told me no D***
Doctor was gonna tell him how to eat!!! So he was a great example. <G>

I agree...I knew no one. The only other diabetic I knew was my Dad and he
was a poor example (alcoholic). Im very glad there are support groups for
young kids now. Chrissy

I wish I had know someone else that was diabetic when I was a teen. That is the
hardest time I think. Glad this group is here.

There is a new group called Diabetes in Kids and Teens and is open
for any diabetics between the ages of 5-18 on the pump pen or
injections.
