angiogram and stent placement

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Dear Catie,
I am a diabetic of forty years and have had two heart catherazations
and two stent placements along with one heart attack. I don’t want to
burst the bubble, but with the stent placement, it may not keep the
arteries completely opened. I am telling you this because both of mine
only lasted about two and a half months. I am now facing a double bypass
operation very soon. But when you go Tuesday, please ask your doctor
about stent placement. Just because mine did not take, does not mean
that yours would not. My body produces scar tissue. It formed inside the
stent and that is why they thought that I was doing good. Nothing had
shown up in the tests and xrays. When I suffered the heart attack, the
only way they knew I was forming scar tissue was the fact that they did
another catherazation. The forming of scar tissue is not from being
diabetic. They usually go through the groin and you have to lay flat on
your back for about six hours with a heavy sand bag on the area where

Hubby’s Wed. CDE visit

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

Well,
The CDE got to see how he has problems with setting boluses, did show
him how to do audio boluses, and watched him change the infusion
set. She told him she wants him to stay with the saline for now, and
he’ll go back on the 26th.
She emphasized with him the need to know the screens, and was very
concerned that he’d somehow reset the basal rate. As he was doing
the infusion set change, she commented that he "might need your
help". I reinforced the need for him to know, that I don’t mind
helping out, but how can I be sure I would always be around? I think
she realizes now that he needs practice, practice, practice of a
serious nature. Oh, she really liked the "cheat sheets" I did, and
he did use them quite nicely.
Take care everyone,
Marj

insulin inflation?

Sunday, April 16th, 2006

Has anybody noticed such a thing as "insulin inflation?" I increased
basals by .01 the past few weeks because of heavy stress (work
deadlines) and everything was fine with nice normal bgs. Now the stress
is gone but my bgs are STILL normal with the increased basal — which
makes me think if I reduce it, the sugars will go high.

Could be it’s just a cold or something keeping my basal need higher, but
I’m starting to wonder if my body would keep accepting higher and higher
basals the longer I kept raising them.

Has anyone seen that happen?

pizza and bolusing…….

for me it seems like any square over 1/2 hour doesnt even work for me!!!!!
maybe cuz it’s small amounts? how much do you square, all of it? what i do
is bolus for the carbs when i eat and then an hour later i up my basal to a
temp basal of 50% higher (from .8 to 1.2) for 4-6 hours……. sometimes it
still goes high, but at least my correction shot brings me right down,
whereas if i dont do the temp basal nothing seems to touch my sugars and i’m
high all the way to the next morning………
