disetronic upgrade

I have not been posting much but I now have some very good news. I have finally
found a doctor that is informed and pro active. I was sent to the diabetic
education center two days ago and the nurse there suggested I might want to
upgrade to the new disetronic as it has delayed boluses (I am not sure how to
say this) for high fat meals. It has some other features that look good.

Does anyone know about this pump? How would I upgrade?

I have to go and have an echo cardiagram with doppler, does anyone know what
this test is? It is for a heart murmur and I am having irregular heatbeats and
some mild chest pain. What should I expect for this test?

The Doppler is a round-end wand thingy that they run over you after some *oil*
is spread on then different colors are shown on a monitor for the echos. I
remember taking a neighbor with me the first time I had a chemistry profile
done - dr. siad it would be 32 diff. tests. I was scared!!! If the medical
people would just explain some of this stuff but I don’t think they realize
what it sounds like to us. The chem prof. was a simple blood draw. And the
amazing thing, there are far more than 32 tests they can do with just blood.

    Jan,
    Thanks a lot, it isn’t so scary after all the other stuff I have had done. ;}
Can you see what they are looking at during the test? I would love to see my
heart working. Some folks think I am a ghoul but I have pics of my barrett’s
esophogus (sp) and all kinds of things. I always feel the more I know about my
body the better off I am.

    Catie,
I think it depends on the personality of the tech. Some actually are human
beings with hearts of their own. Others are food-consuming robots with
probably no real life of their own. I have had some who are very friendly and
talk to me step by step through a whole procedure even though I knew the BP
cuff was inflating, and others walking away, leaving me in fear. You’ll be
able to test their FQ (Friendliness quotient) right away and ask. Part of it
is how the equipment is situated. If it’s behind your head - No. Let us know
    how it comes out.

I have had several echo-grams. Every one I have had I have been lying on my
side facing away from the monitor, so I could not see it.

    Catie,

Hi Chrissy here. Did you start out w/GERD and then developed barretts
esophogus? Since I have GERD I have been reading up on it and know it can
develop into this. What meds are you on for it? Do you have to get checked
regularly for cancer of the esophagus? I was on Zantac then it stoped
working so my dr gave me samples of Achiphex. He says my HMO wont cover the
Achiphex but he can petition them to. So Im trying it and seeing if it
helps. After Im on it for a few days (He gave me lots of samples) Im
supposed to talk w/him and let him know if its helping. How long have you
had this? Thanks for answering my questions.

  6. Dane Karlene Says:

Yes I sure did start with GERD and I am checked for cancer every year. I take
Prilosec (sp) and have found great relief with that. I am lucky that I have
never had my HMO refuse to pay for anything but Glucagon. Zantec never worked
for me so I know how that goes. I have had it since 1996. I am doing so much
better now. With Prilosec I have no symptoms at all. Let me know if I can
    help.

    Catie,
Doppler tests are a piece of cake (no pun intended). You’ll do
fine! Usually, they have the machinery situated so you can’t see,
but some techs get really eager to show the screen to you if you have
a big smile and seem really curious, telling them that it must
take "a lot of skill and education to be able to do something so-o-o
    complicated."

Thanks Catie. Its a real pain in the butt kinda thing as you know. My
biggest thing I deal w/is a really bad barking cough. I also clear my throat
alot. I’ve had one really bad reflux episode. I was lying in bed and could
just feel it rise up so suddenly it woke me up out of a deep sleep. I
thought for sure I was going to loose my cookies. Have you changed your
eating habits at all? I gave up caffene which wasnt easy. I will have it
once in a while but hardly ever. I dont drink coffee anymore either. My one
weakness is soda. I know carbonated beverages are a problem. I try and
drink decaf tea. But I have no self control when it comes to soda. I love
my Diet Caffene Free Coke. I havent elevated my head when I sleep except
w/pillows. I was thinking about getting a wedge. I dont want my husband to

have to sleep that way too. How long have you had this? Chrissy

I am a terrible example to follow. With Prilosec I can eat anything, drink soda

love that drug! I have had this since 1996.

Hi Catie: Did you get the D-tron or the H-tron? fat in a meal delays or
actually slows down how fast you absorb glucose so your numbers stay high for
a longer period of time. Thus you can adjust for a temporary bolus that will
cover a longer period of time and not wake up with a # you don’t want to see.
Echocardiogram is a sonogram of your heart…looks at the action of the
valves as they work and to see if there is obvious obstruction. Next step is
    a thallium stress test…..Joan:))))

  14. Olin Ok Says:

I suspect that the term ‘high fat meals’ is not correct; it should refer
to long lasting carbs. Fats don’t require much insulin, as I understand
it. Also, is the ‘delayed bolus’ the Disotronic substitute for the
Minimed square wave? I use the square wave for just that purpose; to
delay the bolus to meet the demand that shows up much later.

    Chrissy,
Sorry to burst your bubble, but prilosec is not a miracle drug. Been on it
for years and it does help, but I cannot eat whatever I want or when I
want. It basically lowers the production of acid. I still have some foods
lie in my stomack for hours which really plays havoc with bgs. There is
nothing I can really do about when my stomach begins working. Was on
propulsid till it was taken off the market. Good bgs is about the only
thing I find that helps, but sometimes that is hard to acheive if the
stomach is not working an paralysis has set in for awhile.
Just my two cents worth and I am not trying to rain on your Mon. morning,
    just giving you my facts.

I have the HTron and am thinking of up grading to the Dtron. I will have to see
how pricey that would be. I will let everyone know what comes of the
Echocardiogram. I would like to be as informed as possible about my health.

Thats OK Catie and Gail. The above thing is from Gail I just got it off of
the msg from Catie. I called the druggist and he said Prilosec and Aciphex
are both basically the same kind of drug. I have been taking the Aciphex for
about 3 days now. It is helping better than the Ranitidine (generic for
Zantac I think). Im not like on cloud 100 or anything just was hopeful. Ill
stick w/the Aciphex and see how it goes. Catie you are very lucky to have
success. Go for it!! Also you all please pray that my Insurance covers the
Aciphex. Im going to call them tomorrow and ask. My dr seemed to think it
wasnt covered but Im going to call them myself and find out. Take care you
    two. Love, Chrissy
