Endo Visit

I had my second visit with my new endo today. On my last visit we had
talked about the pump and I got the feeling he wasn’t interested in that
treatment option yet. I went ahead and sent insurance info to MiniMed
just so I could be ready when the time came. At our appointment today
he asked when I was getting the pump. He had received the letters from
MiniMed and signed them already. I was quite surprised. We just have
to get some more required paperwork from my previous endo to satisfy the
insurance company and I’ll be on my way to pumping soon hopefully! Of
course IF the insurance company agrees that I need it. Julie from
MiniMed seems to think it shouldn’t be a problem.

Now I’m just waiting to get my hands on a copy of Pumping Insulin 3rd
edition. My local library system only had the 2nd edition so I
requested they purchase the latest. They have it on order and I should
have it soon. Hopefully it will coincide with getting my pump.

    Connie…

I’m not sure if I just happened to get in on a special, but when I
received my pump upgrade last fall, they sent me a copy of Pumping
Insulin…free! You might check with your MiniMed contact and see if
that’s a standard procedure, or if they can include it under "starter
supplies" with the insurance documentation. That way you’ll have
your own copy to mark up and make notes in!

    Suzanna,

Thanks! I’ll check on that. I got a call today from my MM sales rep. She
said that they had received the info they needed from my old endo and just
needed to know who my PCP was. Everything should be ready to go to the
insurance company for approval. Once I get approval, I’ll ask her if the
book is included in the start-up kit. I’m still waiting to get my copy from
the library. A copy of my own is planned whether MM includes it or not.
Just have to wait a while until I have the extra cash flow.

I guess I should decide on a pump color soon. :-) What color do you have?
I’m thinking about "onyx" because it will go with nearly everything in my
wardrobe. But I could always use a case if I get a different color.

Have any of you heard anything about the new 511 that is in development? I

read about it at www.diabetesnet.com. It is supposed to address the problem
with static electricity and other things. How much of a problem is the
static? Is there any way to avoid it? I get shocked a lot getting out of
the car and don’t want it to cause problems with the pump.

    Connie,

Mine is pearl (white) which is really funny because I absolutely
cannot wear white (I always end up with stains) and all my
accessories are black! I was in a funky mood when I ordered it! But
it means that people in the know recognize it as a pump more quickly,
because it looks less like a beeper! LOL I’m waiting for them to
get one in purple, my favorite color!

As far as static, I’ve seen it discussed here before & I’m sure
you’ll get some really good feedback. I haven’t had any problems
    with it as of yet.
