Fastake Meter
Please tell me more about the Fast Take Meter. I have been thinking about
switching and would like to know more about the software and how you get it.
Does it come with the meter or do you have to buy it separately?

I just acquired a FastTake and am using it in conjunction with my
Profile.
The main difference, besides the 15 second reading time, is that it
reports results compensated for whole blood, and as a consequence, reads
1.12 % ;higher than the Profile. I have confirmed this by taking about
20 readings and they all, with one exception, report this difference
within a percent or so. The one exception I has was a profile
reading of 300, and a FastTake reading of 405, way out of line from the
controlled percentage. I discussed this with them, but they had no
ready explanation. The reason I had such a high reading was that my
infusion set came loose without my knowing it.
The software is extra; you also have to get a cable from them, which I
think is free. Have not done this yet.

Catie, the software is separate but comes from the same source. In the US
you can call 1 800 227 8862 or on the web www.lifescan.com
Also as a member of Diabetese Well, they sent the meter for free and I
download to their software. Their addy is www.diabeteswell.com Ya might
wanna try these sites. I find Diabetes Well ppl VERY helpful. Lemme know
if I can be of mfurther help.

David, it has the ability to report in either whole blood or Plasma values.

Interesting; there is nothing in my manual about changing the
calibration factor, nor did the tech rep say anything about that when we
were discussing the two calibration factors.
They do caution you NOT to change the units of measurement however. No
real reason stated.

David, if you go to setup, clik, select preferences, then view options, then
select either whole blood or Plasma values. Here in Canada we are metric so
I have changed my units of measurement to MMOL/L.

That change to mention to MMOL/L was specifically noted as one NOT to
change; it would not work. It has to be sent back to the factory for
this change. I wonder if the Canada and US models are different…

Are you sure we are talking about the same meter? I have a FastTake,
and it does not have screens for setup like you describe…

Could it be Free Style?

Do you have the software program on your puter, David?

I have a program that I have used for several years with the Profile; I
have been thinking about getting the software for the FastTake but have
been waiting for more opinions first. As I said in a previous post, I
finally got tired of all the hassle, and concluded that logging the
moving average from the Profile was about as good and a lot easier.

Maybe the Canada vs. US versions are different, I dunno. ALL I KNO IS THIS
UNIT WORKS VERY WELL AND IS ,oops, it’s readings are comparable to the
Glucometer Elite XL I used before and totally relied on. Especially since
they’ve come out with those new test strips.
