Dr Joe’s e-news 1/2/01 & ACE inhibs & aspirin

Friday, September 16th, 2005

Remember that aspirin blocks the effects of all
ACE inhibitors. If you are on an ACE, find
another pain reliever. Read the package insert.

We love these Angiotensin Converting
Enzyme inhibitors for blood pressure control,
treatment of diabetic kidney disease and a host
of other problems. Just don’t use aspirin with them.

This is the sort of drug-drug interaction that
renders one drug neutral, rather than causing
bizarre symptoms.

For those who are hesitant because of the inserti

I have been pumping since mid August. Since I was a child, I have always had
a fear of the needles. I always thought my diabetes and injections were the
price I pay for the grief I gave my mom once I figured where I was going.
(Joke!)

It is now at a point that the hardest part is just telling myself to relax
and push the button. it is really a piece of cake, so to speak. A million
times better than taking the 18 shots that one insertion replaces.

I hope all had a good holiday, and to all a good night.

Millennium Wishes

In the millenium to come……

May your hair, your teeth, your face-lift, your abs and your stocks not fall;
and

May your blood pressure, your triglycerides, your cholesterol, your white
blood count and your mortgage interest not rise.

May you get a clean bill of health from your dentist, your cardiologist, your
gastro-endocrinologist, your urologist, your proctologist, your podiatrist,
your psychiatrist, your plumber and the IRS.

May you find a way to travel from anywhere to anywhere in the rush hour in

What a treat to get back from Christmas travels and find that
wonderfully comprehensive "frozen shoulder" website — I’m gonna
bookmark it as a Save Page. And the BASH article, in spite of the
reporter error, was a terrific overview. Thanks for a great week’s wort
of posts!

Yale program distributes pumps to kids

Tuesday, September 13th, 2005

(I found this article in the newspaper 12/27/00 and didn’t know it was a
sidebar to the BASH article. It states *long-acting* insulin in the pump - but
it might not make sense to the layperson to use extremely short-acting insulin.
And, wouldn’t you know it, the section with the BASH article was missing from MY
newspaper!!)
Yale program distributes pumps to kids

The Stamford (Conn.) Advocate

Insulin pumps were first used more than 20 years ago, but they were big
and bulky. They’ve gotten more popular for two reasons: The pumps are slimmer,
and the insulin is longer acting.

"Our biggest use of pumps has been over the last three to four years,
especially on very young children," says JoAnn Ahern, a diabetes clinical nurse

It’s in his blood

Man’s unrelenting pursuit of meter for diabetics has firm poised for success.

diabetics, Jim Connolly lived on a shoestring budget, using his basement as a

Wanted- Insulin Pump Study

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

Let me give a little background. I have been a type 1 diabetic for
45 years (since the age of five). When I was 12, my older brother
was also dx’d at the age of 16. I have been fortunate that I work
for an employer that provides health coverage, but my brother is self
employed and has never been able to get health insurance because of
his preexisting "condition". I have been on a pump now for about a
month and it has turned my life around.

What I am interested in finding is an insulin pump study, from a
college or medical study in the southeast. Areas would include:
Atlanta, GA, Chatanooga, TN, or Birmingham, AL.

Could anyone help me connect my brother with such a study?

Thanks,

PROGRAMS TO HELP PEOPLE WHO CAN’T AFFORD MEDICATIONS
Most pharmacies have what are called Indigent Drug Programs that help people
who cannot afford to buy medications. If you need help, call for information
and application procedures. In most cases your physician will need to apply
on your behalf. If the company that manufacturers the medications you
require is not listed below, call them anyway and ask if they have an
Indigent Drug Program.

where wear & Tucson

Monday, September 5th, 2005

The handy thing about wearing the pump in my bra is that I can just
reach down inside my shirt and pull it out, bolus and slide it back into
place. Clipping it onto the neck of my nightgown works at night,
although I started by wearing it inside a tube-top. (I guess men could
do that, too…but it seems like anyone who wears pants instead of
dresses has it easy!)

Chrissy, I’m hoping to see you at the 10:00 service Sunday unless my
parents planned on the 10:30 Mass…if you’re not at the same place,
could you phone the Schnebly # in the book with directions to the new
one?

And everybody, have a wonderful holiday!
