One Month and Still Pumping
Well, I’ve been pumping for just over a month now. So far, all is
going well with my BG readings. I’ve posted my 30, 14, and 7-day
history below. You can see how well I’ve been tweaking my insulin
rates/ratios over the past two weeks. All this has been done without
a single hypoglycemic episode. I used to feel low about three times
per week with MDI. I also had a 24-hour illness with vomiting and
diarrhea that didn’t get me off track…I wasn’t injecting insulin to
cover carbs that I either lost or wasn’t replenishing.

My third MiniMed 508 pump arrives tomorrow. The first one had a
problem with the hinge on the reservoir door. The second one had a
problem with the display screen – some LCD panels would stay on when
they shouldn’t. Thus 0.1 actually looked like 8.1. Both were minor
problems, but MiniMed didn’t want to take any chances.

Hi Jonathon:
I’m the author of the "Disetronic….Just what the doctor ordered"
message that was in the digest a few days ago.
In these past 3 1/2 months, I have had a few lows that were my own
fault, and very predictable results of having a bolus too early.
Otherwise, I have to say that I have gone from frequent episodes of
hypoglycemic unawareness (2 or 3 times a week) while on MDI, to
virtually no unexpected lows.
I am interested in your numbers, but don’t really relate to them very
well, (since my readings ranged from 1.1 to 28 mml/l)
Now that I am on the pump, I am almost always in my target zone of 3.8
to 8.8. It’s absolutely amazing! What a neat invention.
Good Luck Jonathon.

I converted our numbers so that we both would understand the comparison. The
number factor is 1:18…
3.8 mmol/l = 68 mg/dl
8.8 mmol/l = 158 mg/dl
