Hi Everyone!
I have been reading the digest of messages with great interest each
day. I have now been on my pump for 3 full months and have been able
to control my highs and lows with much satisfaction.
One thing that took a bit of getting used to was changing the insulin
cartridge and then dealing with about 6 to 8 hours of high blood sugar
immediately after the change.
As it turns out, I wasn’t keeping the pump on a flat surface standing
upright, and I wasn’t holding the tubing straight up as I was priming.
I learned that the piston rod needs to be properly positioned by
"priming" until all the air is out of the tubing, and insulin is
consistently coming out as a drip.
Now my cartridge changes are much smoother now, and my blood sugar
remains constant. My HA1C is the best it has ever been in the 10
years that I have had Type 1 diabetes!
I wish I had gone on the pump much sooner. . . but I am very glad I’m
on it now.
