MiniMed Demo Pump
You may remember me asking for pump information about a month ago…well, last
night I met with a sales rep from MiniMed. She hooked me up to a demo (saline)
unit so that I could see what it is like to be tethered to it. I’ll be wearing
it for a couple of days. I was sold on the idea of pumping after all of your
positive comments…but it is interested to actually have a pump connected to
me. It was weird showering and getting dressed, but I’m sure I would quickly get
used to that. I have an appointment set with my doctor next week. I will ask for
his support. I can’t imagine him not believing that it would be a great thing.
As good as I’ve been with injections therapy (30 day average = 105) I could do
better with a pump. I live a very active lifestyle and pumping just seems to
make sense.
I spoke with my insurance company again and they said that they cover 90% of the
pump and supplies. They have no waiting period after receiving the letter of
medical necessity from the doctor. There is no length of time required after
diagnosis (I’ve read that some insurance companies will only approve it after 6
months or a year of injections).
I’ve asked Santa for the money to meet my 10% deductible. If all goes well, I
should be pumping in time for Christmas cookies! If all goes extraordinarily
well, I’ll be pumping in time for Trick or Treat!
Thanks again for the support and encouragement!

Hey Jonathan,
It does at first feel kind of weird being hooked to the pump, but soon it
will feel weird NOT to wear it. It just becomes a part of you. I too have
the minimed and like it. Good luck to you.– Jeana in AK Ü
