bronze medal - not Olympics
I just received a letter in the mail stating I qualify for the Joslin
50-year bronze medal. They usually mail them out the month following dx
date, but they are making an exception since my date is 11/5/50 - to get it
to me in time to display at the BASH!!!!!

I have an autographed pic of Miss America ‘99 - Nicole Johnson who wears the
same color MiniMed 507C as I do, and the medal will now arrive on time as an

Jan that is so neat. I hope you can take pictures at your bash and put them
here so those of us who are too far away to attend will be able to enjoy the
aftermath. Chrissy

I got some coupons the other day for free pic CDs with each film developed.
I can put them on e-mail then. One man is coming from Boston with his 50-yr
medal. We haven’t met yet (from the ‘net) but have talked on the phone.

Jan, for those of us who don’t know, how do we go about getting the medals?
On my 25th, I didn’t know there was such a thing. I celebrated my 40th in
April. Exactly who do we contact, how, and what documentation do we need?

To get the medal you have to be warm and breathing after 50 years. But, they
issue a certificate after 25. Contact

I sent copies of pages from my 1950 diary at hospitalization and dx. Also, I
had contacted the records dept. of my hosp. and they forwarded my request to
the proper place(s). I got photocopies of lab reports from that time also.
Interesting thing: I slipped out of consciousness about noon and was told it
took seven hours for them to bring me out of it. I awoke with 3 IV’s and an
oxygen tent. But the first recorded BG was 486 at 8:30 p.m. That’s more than
7 hours past noon. So I had already had insulin to bring me out of the coma
and be 486 at 8:30, therefore, I don’t know how high it was to put me out
and for them to make the diagnosis. I have about 10 pages with one BG each.
I was hospitalized 16 days and each test was a diff. day. That’s a half
century ago!!!! I do them myself now - 6-10 a day.
You can also contact Eli Lilly in Indy. I sent them an e-mail and haven’t
had a response yet. My twin friend (both have DM for 65 yrs) said Lilly
automatically was contacted by Joslin.
