Hello! Newbie and Lurker here!
Good Morning Everyone!
My name is Betsy and I have been lurking for about two weeks now. I am a
TYPE ll Insulin Dependent Diabetic. I have been having serious problems with
my blood sugar and the diabetes nurse that I talk to where I work at thinks
that an insulin pump would be good in my situation.
I guess my question is, would this be good for me? Will I be able to get
tight control? And if I get tight control will I be able to lose weight
again? I have lost over 60 pounds but am now at a standstill. I am on 36 U of
NPH before breakfast and 36 units of NPH before dinner. Now if my blood sugar
is more than 150 in the am then I have to take a certain amount of Lispro
then I check before lunch and if it is still a certain number then I take
another injection and the same routine for dinner because once my bg is high
in the morning it usually stays high throughout the day. Sometimes I am
taking 5 to 6 injections a day.
I used to have my HBA1C at 5.0 it is now up almost to 8. Its just frustrating
because I have worked so hard and now I just feel blah. Tired a lot and so
forth. Now this has happened in the last seven months.
I do have an appointment on Friday with my doctor so hopefully I will get
some answers or demand a more rigorous treatment.
I thank you in adavance for your thoughts and ideas on this matter. And I
thank you for listening.

Hi Betsy:
you are doing intensive therapy right now. Going on the pump will be so very
different. Most people say - gee, I wonder why I didn’t do this sooner, what
was I afraid of???
Talk to the nurse educator. She should know something about pumping. You’ll
see my comment to Jim coming up. Go to those sites and check out the
information you need. A well controlled Diabetic is a VERY WELL INFORMED
diabetic.
Just like you, I’m a type 2. Be pumping 2 years come next April. Would I
change back? Not for all the tea in China! We all root for a cure, but this
is the next best thing until it gets hear. Another good site for a lot of
info is www.diabeteswell.com
Get started…and good luck and welcome to a new lurker….Joan:) (nurse,
soon to be nurse practitioner and certified diabetes educator, diabetic type
2 since age 25 (now 52), disetronic pump trainer, and disetronic pump
user…:)
