5th Day of Pumping, not going well

I was really excited the first three days.

I started out with a .7 basal rate. Threw several reactions, but since I had
my carb tablets and was checking several times, that was not a problem. Did
lower to .6 and that ended the reactions. Now, I am having high BG’s and
have had to take a couple of the conventional injections.

The site changes have gone well, but the sugars are still out of whack. I
have not eaten much over the past couple of days.

And yes, I have been in contact with my doctor.

Starting to get a little discouraged. I was having better control with MDI.
I know it is way too early to let it bother me. I am sure things will work
themselves out.

Later,
Bart

    Bart,
When you were on MDIs you didn’t take the same amount of insulin all the
time did you? So neither will you on the pump. It just takes time to figure
out what basals you need when. I know it is frustrating, but the only way
to do that is to see a pattern in your BGs. So frequent testing and logging
and hanging in there. It WILL be worth it and so are you.

    Hi Bart,

I had alot of trouble for in the first week and things
just got better from there. It took over a month to
get my setting right. The first couple of days we
really out of wack with left over NPH on the first day
and my body adjusting to the new therapy. Now I
wouldn’t go back. As someone here has said a few
times, "They’d have to pry it out of my cold dead
    hands!". Hang in there.

    Hi Bart:
You should be doing serial bg’s like every 2-3 hours (before each meal, and
1-2 hours after is a good rule of thumb) for a couple of days, and a close
count on your carb counting and how much fat as well. And how much you bolus
    for meals.
Some of us react differently than others. You may need different basal #s
throughout the day, depending on your normal activity. So, even though it’s
a pain, keep going, it will get better, I promise. Joan:)

And don’t forget Bart, it won’t hurt to be a little on the high side till ya
get the rates adjusted. That way you’ll avoid reactions. I’ve been at it
now 17 months without a controlled reaction. 8^) Hang in there,
    baby!! You’ll get it.
