Received 1st Pump today
I really did not expect the reaction I had when I first examined the contents
of the package this morning. Everything was fine until I started looking at
the infusion sets.
I was terrified of shots when I was growing up. I gave my mother lots of
trouble when it came time for my boosters. I figured my insulin shots are my
punishment for that. I have been on insulin for over 13 years now. The very
first insulin shot I gave myself took me over an hour.
The same fear has emerged when I saw the introduction needle in the infusion
sets that came with the pump. I just froze for a couple of seconds. My
first thought was that I am not going to be able to deal with that. But I
guess it will just be a matter of doing it and getting used to it.
It is going to be great when I think of the pump as 1 shot for every 18 I
took before.
I already wish that I had checked into this more seriously when my regular
doctor suggested it 4 years ago. I just didn’t really want to mess with
fighting the insurance company. I started talking with MiniMed on June 12 of
this year. That got everything rolling. Today is just June 27. I guess I
missed the fight.
Well, I guess that I about it. I enjoy scrolling through the postings here.
Good Day to all.

Bart,
Hope someone (CDE, Dr ) is going to help you with the first insertion and
starting your pump. Unless you have done it yourself before you need some
instruction.
