website

Monday, September 27th, 2004

It’s nice to have friends 150+ miles away to whom you can send pics and they
put them on the ‘net for you. 8^) I guess all the ads are what pay for my
*Free* website. I just click on the close button as they appear in my face.
Thanks,

Jan’s photos/bedtime (no connection)

Monday, September 27th, 2004

Jan, I got a kick out of your pictures — but what’s funny is that I
would’ve sworn you were a blonde! Don’t know where I got that idea, but
I’ve always envisioned you with short, layered blonde hair. Isn’t it
amazing how radio announcers NEVER look like they sound? Must be the
same with emailers… <g>

>It is suggested that infusion set changes be made well prior to
bedtime.

What a great idea! And so obvious, I’m embarrassed that it never
occurred to me.

Laurie, who’s gonna try it earlier next time

pump backlash

Sunday, September 26th, 2004

No, 17 years ago I didn’t hear about it either, but I do push enough insulin
through the tubing until I see it drip, then I install the reservoir into
the pump and prime it until I see it come out the needle again. After
insertion and withdrawing the introducer needle, then I bolus .5 to take up
the space that was previously occupied by the introducer needle in the
SofSet.

site change time

Tuesday, September 21st, 2004

>Laurie, what time do your normally change your site?

Usually in the evening. But last night I changed it and went right to
bed, didn’t check at ALL during the night, and boy do I feel good this
morning. (Sugar was 279, but I bolused to bring it down and am waiting
to see if it works.)

Actually, I’ll wait to send this until I see how it works — more to come.

(after three-hour meeting and a 145 reading)

Okay, it worked great! Maybe the answer to "courting death vs. getting
no sleep" is "go ahead and court death; ketones won’t kill you over an
eight-hour period."

brothers sharing

Monday, September 20th, 2004

John, this sounds like a GREAT advertising line for a computer company!
If you and your brothers ever show up on Madison Avenue, you’ll have
people clamoring for testimonials <g>

Gorilla Snot

Sunday, September 19th, 2004

I asked the following Q to a dr. friend from another list:
Is tincture of benzoin the same as Gorilla Snot?

His reply:
Yes (Also called "Turlington’s balsam or "Balsam of Peru")

Picky, picky, picky (non-DM, non-pump, non-sense)

>>I’ve played guitar for 26 years and remember seeing Gorilla Snot
advertised in all the musicians catalogs and the back of Guitar Player
magazine’s.

And Patrick wrote:

>>Jh, there is a product called that which is used to make guitar picks
sticky.
It’s like a rosin. Is this the same product?

The NC bluegrass pickin’ pumper

Of course you both realize that the best way to not lose a pick is to use a
thumb pick instead of a flat pick (as did Lester Flatt). Maybe I should say
he used a Flatt pick instead of a flat pick. 8-) (more…)

3am change

Friday, September 17th, 2004

>Why are having to change sites at 3 AM? Are the alarms going off or do you
>awaken with a high BG?

High BG is the problem…apparently both times were because of "a bad
site" (says the CDE). But there doesn’t seem to be any way of KNOWing
it’s a bad site until the sugar goes high and stays high.

awful needles

Wednesday, September 15th, 2004

Bart, I remember that feeling! (From two weeks ago.) It helped using
the automatic-injector (Sof-Sert) version to start with, because with the
machine doing it you’re not quite so aware of actually sticking this big
old needle into your body.

After doing that a few times, the Silhouette version seemed less
scary…but I think it’s helpful to ease into it via machine, where all
you have to do is push the button and not actually watch the needle going
in.

Received 1st Pump today

Tuesday, September 14th, 2004

I really did not expect the reaction I had when I first examined the contents
of the package this morning. Everything was fine until I started looking at
the infusion sets.
I was terrified of shots when I was growing up. I gave my mother lots of
trouble when it came time for my boosters. I figured my insulin shots are my
punishment for that. I have been on insulin for over 13 years now. The very
first insulin shot I gave myself took me over an hour.

The same fear has emerged when I saw the introduction needle in the infusion
sets that came with the pump. I just froze for a couple of seconds. My
first thought was that I am not going to be able to deal with that. But I
guess it will just be a matter of doing it and getting used to it.

It is going to be great when I think of the pump as 1 shot for every 18 I
took before.
