need support:(
Hi,
I posted here once before and never really recieved a reply. I
am having trouble with my pump and it is getting me down. I am a
recovering, healthy, anorexic and have been insulin dependent for 15
years. Years of neglect to my body has left me with retinopathy. I
just had a victrectomy. I went on the pump a year ago and my a1c
went from 14 to 5. I used the teflon needles at first and they
kinked due to not a lot of fat on my stomach. I switched to the bent
needle…..ouch! Well, my skin is getting rough and not all my
insulin is being absorbed. Plus I was having to change the infusion
site 2 times a day because the tape came undone. Has anyone had any
luck with the new teflon shorts? I dusconnected the pump tonight and
took ultralente. I miss the pump already. I am just so
scared……my eyes can not afford unstable control.
If anyone has any uplifting stories about retinopathy getting
better with good control, I could certainly use it! I am only 22 and
both eyes are severly affected.
Thank you,
Ashley

Some people will put down a piece of IV3000 tape on their site first, then
put the SofSet through
that, then apply a second tape over that. Do you use a SofSerter? That has
greatly reduced the kinking problem with a lot of people. Someone should be
able to tell you if you can use the SofSerter with the Micros.

Hi Ashley,
I have had good success with the new Micro infusion sets.
The Ultimate (old) ones were getting uncomfortable and felt
like they were rubbing against my muscle, and bruising me.
Since I switched to the Micro, I haven’t had any problems.
You can call Minimed and request samples to try. I too
tried the ones that go in at an angle, and they were
uncomfortable too.
When I first started the pump I was pregnant, and had the
extra weight. But since the baby was born I’ve lost the
weight, and the fat and needed to switch to the Micro sets.
Also, have you tried the back of your arm? I thought it
would be a really odd place, but it’s REALLY comfortable!
Just have to make sure you have 42" tubing!
Also, I put tape down, use the SofSerter, and put tape over
the set. I’ve never had a set come out.
Good luck!

Tracy,
Thank you for your input. I called Minimed earlier and they helped me
through this. They are sending me some samples of the new micro needlr.
Thanks,
Ashley

<< If you can pinch an inch of skin and subcutaneous fat, then you can use
either the Rapids which come in 3 needle lengths - 6mm, 8mm, and 10 mm or
the
Soft Sets which are another form of plastic catheter. You can get a
Soft-serter, which is like a giant lancet pen to help put them in, doesn’t
hurt either. >>
Hello,
Thank you for your info. I have tried the soft sets and they were too
big for my stomach. I called minimed and they are sending me some samokes of
the newest ultra short soft set to try out.
Thanks again,
Ashley

Ashley, ya might wanna try the comfort set from Disetronic they go in at a
30 deg angle, have their own adhesive, are QD. and cost less and will hook
up nicely to your MM. I’ve been using them for over a year now and had no
problems.

Have you tried to insert any other areas of your body besides your
stomach? I have had some great success using my upper hip area and
also using the tender sets or the sillohette.
As far as the retinopothy goes I have had numerous laser surgeries
myself over the last 9 years. My vission has been stable but I have
become super sensative to light over the years. I have
neovascularazation in both of my eyes and just finished more lasers
surgery on Thursday. Do you know what Stage you are in? Please try to
see the best eye doctor available in your area.

Good thing that you are seeing the best eye doctor available. I have heard
to many horror stories over the years of people who were not treated
correctly or not diagnosed properly. Do try to give a call to Disetronic to
and get some of their samples. I does not hurt to try them all. The rapids
can be a good option for some people but the problem is they do not have a
disconnect feature. I had nothing but problems with the comfort sets that is
why I had to switch to the silhouette or tender.
