bring a high down at night

Tuesday, June 29th, 2004

Gail,
I had some birthday ice cream last night and was 294 before bed. I took a
0.5u bolus, raised my basal from 0.4 to 0.5 from midnight to 6:00 a.m. and
woke up 134. That’s how it works for me.

but thanks!

Sunday, June 27th, 2004

Oh, shoot, here I was griping about how hard this is to learn, and
completely forgot to say I appreciate the help! Just came back from the
glucose website, which is great…and it DOES mean a lot to have people
on here who’ll answer all kinds of questions. Thanks, guys!

pasta nightmare

Sunday, June 27th, 2004

Oh, shoot…this is all sounding so much more complicated than I
thought! I’m sure everybody else has been through this already, but
right now it just seems overwhelming to think of learning how to deal
with Burger King vs. Spaghetti Factory.

I remember going through this same process (ignorance, glimmer of
knowledge, intimidation at complexities, wanting to quit, hanging in and
finally mastering) when I first tried to publish a novel…but darn, I
*hate* the intimidation stage!

Forced to make a change

Saturday, June 26th, 2004

Gang,
If you have been tired of seeing the way I sign most of my posts (Jan 60
y/o, T-1 11/5/50, pmpg 8/23/83 and Bluda Sue, MM507c 3/99 , I have been
unwillingly forced into make a change today. I guess it’s better than the
alternative. ;) Jan (61 y/o, T-1 11/5/50, pmpg 8/23/83) and Bluda Sue (MM507c, 3/99)

longer-acting carbs

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004

Drat! Just when I think I’ve got the idea of carb counting, along comes
a phrase "longer-acting carbs like pasta" and I realize there’s yet
another concept I haven’t learned.

Where can I find the difference between short and long-acting carbs? (I
didn’t see it on the diabeteswell site, but I might’ve been on the wrong
screen.)

humalog insulin

Monday, June 21st, 2004

Hi,
I received in the mail on Saturday a letter from the pharmacy I deal
with
About using humalog insulin. Since it is fast acting, it says that a
longer
acting insulin should be used with it. How would that work in a insulin

pump? Is using two different types of insulin recomended to be used in
the
pump? I use only u-100 humulin regular insulin.
Thanks, Kathy B.

Hey, I also go to the Barnes Retinal Institute and praise Dr Burgess for
the sight I do have. He is a great doctor.

disconnect

Sunday, June 20th, 2004

I guess as we get older we get *set in our ways.* When I started pumping all
we had was a straight needle to bend ourselves. No disconnect, no nothin’
else. In the past almost 17 years I have not disconnected for anything. I
unhook when I change a set, but otherwise I’m pumping or a temp. basal of
0.0 or 0.1 for a period of my choosing.

Variant of Love Bug Virus Surfaces

The Associated Press
May 19 2000 9:10AM ET

NEW YORK (AP) - A new computer virus, said to be both smarter and more
destructive than the worldwide “Love Bug” plague that inspired it, has
surfaced but was not spreading rapidly today, according to Internet bug
watchers.

The CERT Coordination Center, a government-chartered computer emergency
team at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, reported that as of 8
a.m. EDT, it had “received no direct reports of infections related to
this virus.”
