Food Poisening and High Blood sugar!!!!!

How would food poisening effect your glucose levels. Looks like I got
a bad batch of baked clams last night and have been sick all day.
Headache, nausea, vommiting, the whole nine yards. I know it is food
poisening cause the person I went with is sick to. My levels are off
the board, I just pulled the set and I’m finaly feeling better now. =)

Sorry I should add that whenever you vomit or have 2 consecutive
highs you should test for ketones. I can sense ketones right away
because I have been diabletic for 23 years but anyone using the pump
or not should follow those rules.

Interesting - the duration thing. I’m from 5 decades of this and was talking
to a 34-yr-old who has had it for 14 years the other night. I was telling
her about my BASH display for 11/4/00 and that I had my old Clinitest stuff,
etc. She was talking about a BG test where you had to wash the blood off,
etc. I told her I turned around a walked away from the first meter I saw -
why in the world would I want to poke myself to get blood?! She said, "To
find out what your sugar was." I told her I was from the time of ONE BG
every 3 months at the lab or dr’s office. She asked how we controlled our
insulin with an A1c? I kind of laughed and said there were NO A1cs - that
was a BG once every 3 months. You kind of get used to feeling lousy and
nauseated at times. Just at Christmas ‘98 I’m SURE (now) I was in DKA but
didn’t have sense enough to realize what was happening. Of course, I was
alone and it was at night. I took 2u at a time and tested every hour - sat
up to sleep and set an alarm. I probably did have ketones and don’t know
what I would have done had I had sticks to test and it was large. I’m glad

you can tell - some old dogs take longer to learn new tricks. ;) Jan

    Hello Jan,

Yes I forgot what year blood test strips were introduced, I remember
getting yelled at when I went to the lab because my sugar was 170. I
remember numerous times feeling fine then just collapsing from low
blood sugar. The first blood testing I did was a strip that we use to
wipe and match to a vial. I think it was an Accucheck product. It was
real tough to match it up. I think it had a color for 60-120-180-240
and up. From your experience I guess we have come a long way Jan but
not far enough. Its great that they come out with all these products
that help treat diabetes better but we truly need a cure.I have been
hearing for the last 23 years that we are 10 years away, it is 23
years later are we still 10 years away?
