Pizza Packs a Triple Whammy

<< At times I get some highs, especially when eating pizza and it seems
to
take some time to get back in the normal range. I’ve heard that using
the
humulog would bring the sugars down more quickly. Is this so >>

My Doctor, Dietition, and CDE have told me that Pizza packs a triple whammy
that no other food has.

1. You get a high from the sugars that are in the sauce and crust almost
instantaneously after eating them. Humulog can bring that down with the
initial bolus.

2. You start to break down the carbs and get another surge about an hour
later… a square wave bolus will help with that.

3. You need to test about 4 hours later because all the fat in the pizza
begins to break down and you may have to take a correction bolus to deal with
this hit later.

Hope this helps

I would agree with that, Basically I square my insulin over a half an hour
period when eating pizza and also double my basil rate for 5 hours and it
works for me. You have to be a good detective and figure out what will work
best for you. Pasta, Pizza and Chinese food are tough on any diabetic.
