another question from newcomer

Wednesday, February 11th, 2004

Can anybody tell me how long to leave the needle in a site? Back when I
was doing the pump 15 years ago the site was supposed to change every
two days…but I’m hearing things on here that make me wonder if that
could be longer now. How long does anybody go between switching sites?

Laurie, who’s printing out tons of messages to keep reviewing — thanks!

I just want to remind all of our members that you can very easily switch
your subscription to this list. You can choose to receive E-Mails, Daily

the list know matter what subscription you have. Just go to www.onelist.com

Hey,

CONGRATULATIONS,

I tried to contact you on another list I *assumed* (you know what that makes

Tell us all about it (the wedding, etc.).

New insulin pump

Wednesday, February 4th, 2004

Dr. Jacques,
Thought you might find this interesting. It looks really
nice!
Oh, blood sugars are doing well, I did a little more
tweaking and fasting are running between 76 and 121. How
often would you like me to email you my blood sugars?

ORIGINAL SCROLLS FINALLY LOCATED:

Word has it that the original scrolls were finally located and this is what
REALLY happened:

God made woman. She had two arms, two legs, and three breasts. And it was
good.

God asked the woman if there would be any changes she would make about
herself.

She replied that she would like the center breast removed.

actually getting excited about this!

Gail, Frank, Jan, you’re wonderful! It’s so nice to know there’s
someone in almost exactly the same age/duration framework as me…that
there’s a whole website of options I never even dreamed of…and that
real people are living great lives with insulin pumps. (Jan, my
computer couldn’t respond to your address, but thanks for the advice!)

You’re probably all used to this by now, but it amazes me that there are
people as close as my emailbox who’ve gone through the same kind of
questions I’m just discovering. My husband/son, my parents, my friends
are all as supportive as can be — but they don’t KNOW what it’s like.
The idea of getting advice from other diabetics is such a treat…thank
you all!

Laurie, looking forward to tomorrow’s digest (and anybody else’s
recommendations — hearing firsthand experiences really helps)

Why I like my pump

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2004

When CPI quit mfg. pumps I was very set against going with MiniMed because
theirs had a clock that was programmed to bolus. The rep. knew my distaste
for being run by a clock - *I* wanted control. He knew CPI was quitting and
called me one day to tell me about MM’s new 506 (then). My first Q was,
"Does it have a clock because if it does I don’t want anything to do with
it." He was one step ahead of me. He said he knew that but I should listen
to what this new one did. I listened and agreed that the clock was for
scheduling different basal rates (my 507c can be set for 48 diff. basal
rates throughout the day - IF needed). I get 0.1 of a unit at a time and can
bolus that much if needed. From midnight to 6:30 a.m. I receive 0.4 units
per hour (that’s 0.1 every 15 minutes); from 6:30 - 9:00 I have it set for
1.7 per hour delivery; from 9:00 a.m. - midnight I receive 0.7 per hour. The
boluses, of course, vary for meals WHEN I choose to eat.

Whichever pump you choose, you’ll love the freedom with flexibility. Try to
