hello from newcomer

Hi, I just saw this group on onelist and was intrigued — a few days ago
my doctor said he wanted to put me on 3 shots a day instead of 2, and
now I’m wondering whether a pump might be better.

I’m 44, diabetic since age 3, and used a pump while I was pregnant 15
years ago. At the time it was a big pain — the boluses hurt, inserting
the needle hurt — and as soon as I had my baby it was goodbye, pump!

But have things gotten better in 15 years? Can anybody offer some
suggestions? Thanks!

I’m sure they have Laurie but we have some people that are a lot better
qualified to answer that question them me. I have been using it for 4 years
and have had great success with it myself. The pump is the size of a pager
now and I’m sure the are a lot more choices in Infusion sets now. But I have
to throw it in the lap of some of the long time pump users in our group.
    Good Luck Laurie.

    Hi Laurie:
You’re going to hear a lot of stuff from all of us telling you how great the
    pump is!!!
As a nurse, been on insulin about 8 years now, before, the pills - I’m a type
    2. Been on the pump 1 year coming up in April and I would never go back! I
think you’ll hear the same thing from all of us. so just fire away with
questions, we’ll all answer then, and WELCOME!!! Joan:)

The answer is yes things are better check out the minimed site and the
disetronic site and ask for their videos and info packs i am sure you will be
    delighted.
the needles come either as a real needle very small to slightly bigger to the
kind that the needle comes out and a plastic canula stays in for three days
and you can’t feel either type once in we find My daughter is 10yrs old that
the canula type are a little painful putting in but has a rapid disconnect
feature that some people like she prefers the tiny needle kind and says it
doesn’t hurt at all and stings a little with the first bolus of insulin but
doesn’t bother her after that. and the pumps have changed they are smaller
and lighter and hold 315 units of insulin at a time.
she loves hers and doesn’t ever want to go back on the shots
