Rapids
Joan I put one of those rapids 8 in my upper hip.. butt area and it is working
well. They sent me four samples and I received them on Thursday. I applied one
this morning right after I took a shower. Hopefully I can work out a deal with
Disetronic to swap an un opened box of tenders 2 for a box of rapids. This way I
can give my stomach a whole month off and then after that I will rotate the
sites using the tenders in my stomach and the rapids in other areas. They are
real easy to insert and hopefully I will not have any site problems. Big draw
back there is no disconnect available in the United States on the rapids.
Thanks
Frank

To me the lack of the QR would defeat any device, unless nothing else
worked…
I can’t imagine how I survived before the QR became available!

Point well taken David but for me having to go off the pump for any length of
time now or in the near future would be a real killer. My Hga1c was averaging
between 11-14 prior to pumping. So if it means being inconvenienced for a month
or so or even for 2 days a week I rather make that choice then go back to the
rocky world of injections. Which for me meant 4 am horrors. Waking up at 300…
lows of 20 with little or no warning. Generally feeling like garbage day after
day.

Your point is very well made! I had Hga1c of 16 the first time it was
done (1979) but today it is 6.4, and I have had few problems since
starting the pump 10 years ago. So, now I can enjoy the secondary
benefits, I guess, and quit worrying about the massive stuff. I test
8 times a day, using the Profile, and have a moving average over 30 days
of about 130 or so. But the peaks can be as high as 300 and as low as
50, which is not so hot. Most of the time, though, the peaks are less
than 200 are more than 70.
Your comments really put the matter in perspective….

Okay,
What are these "Rapids"? How do they work? I already use my
hip as an insertion site. And what is/are a "tenders 2"?

hi,
rapids are an insertion that comes in different lengths like 6mm, 8mm, 10mm
and the metal needle stays in instead of a catheter or canula. it is a small
round pad with the needle and you peel off paper and pull protector off
needle and stick it in. i used a tegaderm under and over though they come
from disetronic and has no quick release option

Sorry did not see the rest of your message.. The Tender 2 is the same exact
set as the silhouette it is just packaged by Disetronic. The set comes with
20 needles and 10 tubes. This allows you to fill your insulin for 4 to 6
days and only change the base instead of changing out the whole set. It
saves a lot of time when changing sets.

Frank, do you find it difficult to sit with it in there?
Or bumping into things?

David, when you talk about peaks, do you mean 1 hour after eating peaks?

Is this also know as a "Contact"

No, I always test 2 hrs after eating. If I am high then, it means that
the Humilog has not lasted long enough (carbs are lasting longer) and I
can correct immediately safely. Then I correct using the standard rule
for my system which is 1 unit for each 25 points I want to reduce….

Guys, just for fun, next time try it 1 hour after I’m curious as to what you
get. OK?

hi frank:
this is one finger-still have cast on..
be careful with using your hips…make sre you can pinch that inch..for some
reason, some of us don’t have as good absorption…joan:)
November 5th, 2003 at 8:15 pm
Hi tracey: rapids made by disetronic..90* angle of needle so goes in
straight..very short-3 lengths..has no disconnect like minimed
products…Joan:)
November 6th, 2003 at 4:23 am
frank: you are thin. and that makes a dif in absorption–not as generously
padded as some of us…if you put a rapid in, do not place over the bony part
of your hip, go back to butt…always has some padding…you may be sleeping
on the site and inhibiting absorption…Joan:)

hi t:
depends on exactly where u put it…I don’t put it exact;y on the
"sitter"..this cast is a pain……..joan:)

I don’t see much point in this, unless you are experiencing unusual
highs and need to get control fast. Most of the time, Humilog has
pretty much done its work after 1 hour.

Thanks Joan.. .I will keep it in mind. How did the surgery go… Get well

I think the term ‘brittle’ is obsolete. I think any type one will
behave pretty much as I do, since you make no insulin, without it you go
to the moon fast. And, with too much insulin, you are guaranteed to
crash.
I always test during the night at least once, and more if the first one
shows trouble.
