I’m still here Jan actually getting ready to change my site which cause me
problems at times. I use the silhouette and it seems like the scar tissue is
causing me problems with absorption and or the canuola pops as I insert the
needles. Or sometimes they just bend on insertion. Just been doing a lot of
creaming of my skin hoping it will make it a little easier on entry. Any other
ideas.. tried legs and other areas with little success.

I use SofSets and have a SofSerter. Can do it without, but seem to have better
absorption now with using that thingamajig. I’m ready to change mine too. Good
Luck.

hey guys just found out that daughters pump will not be a minimed but a
disetronic pump instead. any one have anything to say about the difference or
use of it?
thanks,
kathy
Well the first thing to do is get a little brainwashing from their site www.disetronic.com second, do you have the book "Pumping Insulin"? If not,
get it.
fp
Frank,
After I was really sick this fall and the swelling went out, I could not
get my infusion set in my abdomen. I switch my site to above my waist. I
had tried it once a long time ago and it was always irritated. But this
time I am doing pretty good and I can’t believe it, I have cut my insulin
in half. So I know my abdomen has had poor absorbtion for quite some time.
I also got a soft serter and it helps too.
I use soft set QR.
Gail
I’m here too, I was wondering why things had gotten so quiet. So far no
pump for my son Mark. I have drafted a letter, and included a 2 1/2 month
chunk of my sons readings from his log book, with it highlighted and such so
they can see examples of his unstable readings. I plan to send that along
with two articles, also highlighted in important places, and our video about
the pump. PLan to mail them in the morning, hopefully all the information
will get to someone who can read at the insurance company and will get
things going.
Red <:)))><
Red,
From what I understand the reps from the pump companies work diligently for
a person to receive a pump. Have you contacted either MiniMed or Disetronic
for help? They want to make a sale and know how to call the shots. Give it a
try. They both have websites.
Jan
Hi Jan: I’m sure we’re all alive and kicking…holidays coming depending
on your orientation, Happy Channuka or Merry Christmas…either way, finals
are HERE, so that’s one of the reasons I’ve kkept my opinions in my
fingertips….Everyone have a happy and joyous holiday season…keep on
pumpin’ to jingle bells! Joan - 18 months left to go ’til graduation!!!
Hi Frank: Have you tried any other type of infusion set??? I’ve been
alternating between the Rapids in 6mm and 8 mm length and the Soft-set
QRs…with different depths of penetration, it may prove more helpful. You
can also place a 6mm Rapid on your buttocks…just stay away from your
hip…very slow absorption (less subcutaneous tissue for some reason) and I
know you aren’t as padded as some of us….I tried the
Tenders/Silhouettes…had a wonderful allergic reaction to both the cannula
and the adhesive…interesting branding…took a while to clear.
The Rapids and the Bent needles allow for a bit less depth for insertion and
are great except if you have metal sensitivity…might have to change the
site a bit more frequently, but I’m finding that depending upon where it is,
it can last me up to 3 days. Greasing is fine for skin, but water inside is
better….try increasing your fluid intake to 8 - 8 oz glasses per
day…Happy Holidays! Joan:)
Kathy:
Make SURE that there is a scheduled pump training session with your CDE or
pump trainer Before actual use. Trial run before using insulin in the pump
should be at least a week to get the hang of using the pump and inserting
infusion sets…there is also adjusting basal rates for her (sorry don’t know
her name and age) and that fine tuning should be done under
supervision……Joan
Hey Red, it’s time to get after that insurance company…Its called
"discrimination" and we can use the word liberally when it comes to
diabetes. Suggest you contact the Juvenile Diabetes Assoc. support group in
your area…might be time to start inviting a lawyer to have a "discussion"
with the powers that be….Joan:)
Hi Joan,
Thanks for all the input I didn’t find the disetronic web pages very helpful
at all and I printed it out for my daughter and only part of page prints due
to the way they put the print on the page on web site. They don’t list
prices etc. as the minimed did for the accessories etc. or even a very good
pic of it. I had hoped for a place to call and order a video etc. but all I
could do was register as a customer so far.
The way I found out we were getting a different pump than we were told was
the trainer from disetronic called me to see if I had received any info yet,
which I hadn’t as all info I had gotten was from minimed.
We have an endo who is on a pump and two others which aren’t diab, also have
a wonderful diab educator and a nutritionist, and social worker etc.
Once we proved to them that we were serious about the pump and had a 7 month
log of blood sugars to show them etc. we were considered and info sent to ins
co and had no problem getting it approved or for the three day hospital stay
from jan 6 to 8 to be put on it.
I really appreciate your telling me the differences like water proof and
etc., do they have plastic or teflon catheters as Alisha is allergic to most
metals and tapes.
It was quite a shock today when the trainer called me about disetronic as I
really hadn’t even considered it at all afraid I wasn’t very nice to him he
is supposed to send info and come to the house and do a demo for us.
Thanks again and any thing else you think of that was helpful to you let us
new ones know, please.
Kathy
Kathy here is the technical support number for Disetronic 1-800-280-7801,
Maybe they can help you some of your questions and also fax and mail you the
information that you are looking for.
They have been helpful to me in the past, I use a Minimed pump but use some
of there sets.
Disetronic have the biggest share of the market in Europe, and MiniMed have
the biggest share in the US, but apart from that the 2 pumps are really
very similar. And MiniMed and Disetronic fight tooth and nail, rather like
Coke and Pepsi…
Disetronic pumps take exactly the same infusion sets as MiniMed pumps - so
you can use any infusion set you like. MiniMed will try and sell you only
their own brands and Disetronic likewise will sell you only theirs. But if
you are wise and informed you will try all the infusion sets available
until you find the one that suits you best.
If your daughter(?) gets allergic rashes, you’ll need to experiment to find
what works best. Many people use something like SkinPrep to protect the
skin before putting any tape on it. I personally have found the Disetronic
Tenders (same as MiniMed Silhouette) to be the only one that gives me no
rash, since I have very sensitive skin. But that is just what works for me.
