P-A-D
PUSHING AWAY DIABETES, is an international campaign to let the world know that
diabetes causes blindness, kidney failure, nerve damage, amputation, comas and
death. And, that this killer disease takes more lives each year than AIDS &
Breast Cancer combined. P-A-D’s goals are 3 fold; 1) Make the world aware that
the only solution is a cure. 2) Generate funding necessary to bring about that
cure. 3) Remind those living with diabetes that exercise & diet are a key
factor to their survival.
The platform or foundation of PUSHING AWAY DIABETES is simple yet challenging.
Will Gassen, father of 2.5 year old Sydney Elizabeth, who was diagnosed Type 1
on 2-10-98, has committed to 1000 push-ups per day until a cure is perfected
and practical. What has traditionally served as a disciplinary tool for
military and fraternal organizations will now take on a new light. Push-ups now
will provide a nucleus for P-A-D’s life-changing mission. This dedication will
cause direct benefit to diabetes research as Diabetes Reaserch Organizations
raise money based on pledges and donations targeted to Mr. Gassen’s efforts.
Mr. Gassen and his family will travel to media destinations throughout the U.S.
and abroad to support and promote public, media and government awareness. To
further support research funding efforts, the Gassen family will produce a daily
diary of thoughts, concerns and ideas of interest to those families who’s lives
have been touched by diabetes. This letter will be distributed for support, and
to encourage, all those who have requested to share in, and remain in touch with
this courageous endeavor.
