ketchup
This may be a weird post, but it is hard to explain to people how one feels
with a high blood sugar. I like object lessons. A Diabetes Educator gave me the
following *recipe*. I keep it made up and in the fridge for object lessons for
speeches and anyone else who is curious. I think it explains a lot.
1/2 C Catsup & 1/2 C water = 100 BG
1/2 C Catsup & 1/3 C water = 200 BG
1/2 C Catsup & 1/4 C water = 300 BG
1/2 C Catsup = 400 BG
Store them in double zipper-type plastic bags. Feel the differences in the
consistencies. Everywhere in the body is where the blood is. No wonder one feels
so awful with that thick blood trying to get to the toes and elsewhere. I use
Heinz Ketchup.

Do you mean the extra B/G actually thickens the blood???

To add to my previous post of *YES*. When doing a BG sometimes the blood is
sticky. The more sugar in a cup of water makes a thicker syrup. Same as with
blood.

Hey, Jan..the ketchup is a pretty good analogy about making one feel sluggish
and tired or just plain exhausted..medical explanation is that lack of
insulin causes cells to be starved, the mitochondria (energy warehouses) do
not get fed and stop production (they go on strike).Until insulin is
provided, nothing gets done during the shut-down and all processes halt
(eventually stop completely with the end result of pushing up daisies)..thank
God for insulin. The blood doesn’t actually thicken as we would think by the
way we feel..the only way one can thicken the blood is by increasing red cell
(or white cell or platelet) production such as in some leukemias…just
thought you’d like some ammunition in case the pot gets stirred up a bit
:)….how is your son recovering? …you’ve been quiet about it so one can
assume that all is well?…Les
