JOAN: You really Type 2?? I didn’t know Americans went with pumps for
T-2’s — there’s an Asian country that does.

    Yes Jan, I’m a type 2 - wasnt really diagnosed until 1984 when I had a car
accident and found out my fasting was over 200. Had gestational diabetes,
but being a "little" nursing student back then, didn’t know as much about DM
as I do now. I am insulin resistant, can’t use glucophage, and pills don’t
work any more. started on insulin about 6 years ago. didn’t have good
control because I was relying on my internist to help me in gaining control.
didn’t work. When I started researching about pump therapy and learning more
about insulin resistance, i realized I needed the pump. I was a classic.
Large doses of regular and 70/30, a LOT of insulin reactions, gaining weight
by the ton (well, not that much, but enough, not that I’m thin, I’m short,
blonde and moderately round). Took me a while to find a "good"
endocrinologist that was willing to work with me instead of dictating.
Luckily my starting back to school for N.P. put me right in line with my
instructor who is a N.P. who specializes in diabetes. One thing lead to
another and I started on the pump May 4th of this year!!! IIS- Insulin

Infusion Specialists were very instrumental in helping my endo. to get the
paperwork done for insurance verification….shock of my life, I was covered
100%!!!!! I only have a co-pay for my Humalog and strips for the glucometer.
I was lucky enough to take a train-the-trainer for Pump training 2 weeks
ago. Waiting to hear my test scores and whether I am an official certified
    pump trainer.
Just so you know, there are a lot of type 2s out here, just gotta learn more
about ourselves, so pumping isn’t limited to yor type 1s, ya hear??? anyway,
    that’s the scoop….got homework…talk to ya later…Joan:)

    Hi fp:
N.P. is Nurse Practitioner. It’s an advanced practice nurse - for me it’s
family, sort of like a general practitioner - the old town family doctor.
We’re considered physician extenders like physician assistants and nurse
midwives. We take care of the general stuff, physical assessments, ordering
tests, diagnosing and treating but our focus leans toward education and
prevention so there is a lot more teaching the patient to take care of
themselves and stay healthy or try to improve their health status. We work
together with the physician to provide more comprehensive care…hope that
answers your question, back to homework in a bit…Joan:)

is there something missing from this message??

  11. daphne400 Says:

yes Jan, there was quite a bit, but that was a bit of time ago. I’m a type 2
    on insulin. Joan :)

I have to agree with Jan on this one, I am on 3 other lists, and if at least
part of the message you are responding to isn’t quoted, I have no earthly
idea what you are talking about. While it is not necessary or prudent to
copy the entire post, simply enough to reference the answer would be very
    helpful.
    Thanks!
