escrow at MiniMed -Reply

Saturday, March 29th, 2003

Hi Jan!
I had a bad experience in dealing with MiniMed regarding
credit to my VISA when they charged me twice for one order.
I had ordered supplies using the customer # they had used
on my previous shipment of supplies also providing name
and address information at that time. Unbeknownst to me,
the # that had been assigned on that previous shipment was
assigned to the insurance carrier’s agent. They claimed to
have sent everything to the address of the agent although I
had not been contacted by them. When I received my credit
card statement with the 2 charges (I had to pay MORE for
the same items than the agent did!), I called and they
assured me I would be credited. I more or less forgot about
it until I was checking my statements regarding another
matter and saw that no credit had ever been made over the

escrow at MiniMed

Saturday, March 29th, 2003

This has happened to me twice and want to make other MiniMed clients aware of
it:
Several years ago I received a call from someone about MiniMed (auditor?) having
$400 in my name and what did I want done with it. I did not know how they got it
and since it was my money, I requested it.

In April I charged $495 on my Visa for a replacement 506 until my ins.Co.
approved the 507c. I was told I would be credited with after the balance of my
deductible, which was about $285, when MM received the 506.

I waited and waited for a return mailer (the longer I had the 506, the longer I
was paying interest on that $285). I called in May and got a mailer. July 2 I
called MM to inquire why I still had not been credited. I was told they received
the 506 6/4, but that my MiniMed account, not my Visa would be credited. I said
I was highly offended by this practice and why would I charge that much to pay

Swimming

Wednesday, March 26th, 2003

Hi, I am another new pumper (3 weeks) and love it! This weekend I was
swimming and the cannula became bent (I use the sof-set) and stopped the
insulin flow. Has anyone had any experience swimming with the pump? What have
you done to prevent anything like this from happening?
Thanks!
Andrea

bent needle

Saturday, March 22nd, 2003

This internet stuff is rather new to me (diabetes is old). I sent this message
to Catie but realized the rest probably did not see it. So will redo it and send
it to I hope the right source:

I have been using a pump since ‘83 and for years used a bent needle. The problem
I had was that I (and many diabetics) are allergic to steel because of the acid
in the skin (wearing gold is discouraged - a stainless steel watch back is a
must for me). I can’t wear steel framed eyeglasses either - only plastic coated.

But a couple of things that helped me was that I taped the bent needle down,
made a double loop about 1" away from the site. I covered it all with Op-site
4575 surgical tape (Minimed carries it). To protect me from jabs by the needle
with my purse, grocery cart, countertop, etc., I got a rigid surgical eye patch
(the kind with holes in it for air circulation) from an eye doctor (it had a
cloth band around the rim). I taped it on top of the site with J&J cloth or

New to pumping

Tuesday, March 18th, 2003

Howdy all,

I have been lurking for a bit and would like to get a bit of advice. I am
about 10 days into using a pump. I chose the diesetronic (sp) and am happy
with it but I am NOT happy with the tenders infusion set. I am not good
with fast input and they hurt if you push them in slowly.

I cannot find the IV Prep and Skin Prep that I am supposed to use. Can
anyone point me in the direction of where I can get them?

New Insulin Pump Company

Monday, March 17th, 2003

I understand there is going to be another company manufacturing insulin pumps.
Hopefully this can help drive down the price a little of pumps and infusion sets
and help make it more affordable to everyone. I also understand that they have
some sets that are being developed, this again is positive news for Pampers, we
need more choices.
