question -Reply

I have lots of highs during the week before my period, then I
drop low for the week I have it. I try to avoid high-fat foods
and get lots of exercise the week before, and then test
frequently and keep juice handy during the week of. And I
try to remember that hormones are rotten little
troublemakers and don’t get too worked up when I get an
unsatisfactory reading. Most of diabetes is attitude, so I
think positive and try to make the right choices without
becoming a martyr and I am healthier than all of my
non-diabetic friends.

That’s a wonderful thought-I’ve heard about all the great results of
positive thinking-like the woman who had breast cancer, and who refused to
accept it, and pictured healthy cells in her body, and it dissappeared! I’ve
heard the same thing about some AIDS victims! Maybe that’s why I’ve been so
lucky so far-when I was a kid, I pretended I was just like everyone else I
knew-healthy. But now I try really hard to take care of myself.

    Hi Janet:
It’s time to go talk to your CDE. If you’re pumping, your pump trainer and
your CDE should have explained about adjusting your temporary basal levels to
allow for those highs during our wonderful friend. Might be an idea to
contact one of the Joslin centers. They are great resources. there’s also a
good book called the Diabetic Woman-All your questions Answered by
Jovanovic-Peterson, Biermann & Toohey. check it out! Joan :)
