Low blood sugars
Hi everyone, I have been using an insulin pump for about 10 months and
I love it! The only problem I seem to be having is that my blood
sugars bottom out during my menstural periods (sometimes as low as the
40’s, believe it or not I’m still awake when this happens). Does
anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. Cindy.

Hi, in response to your low BG’s during your period,,I have the opposite
problem (too high)..my suggestion would be to change your basal rate (I
increase mine for two days)..you could decrease yours..you’ll have to
experiment..lots of luck..Leslie

I have been using the pump (Minimed 507) for 10 years, and had many problems
with low BG over the years. The main solution came with a change to
Humilog insulin, which has a very short (2 hr) lifetime, and does not build
up in your system. Thus, the basal stuff acts more in real time, and does
not accumulate and cause low BG’s. Also, the change to Humilog also
resulted in a drop of about one full point in A1c readings. Since
switching to Humilog about a year ago, I have not had one serious low….

Cindy, I also have this problem, have for years. I have been on a pump for
18 years. I find I decrease my bolus intake slightly for a couple days.
