Apologies

Monday, January 27th, 2003

I have to take the time out to apologize to everyone on our list. Someone today
decided to shoot of profanities at one of our members. I just wanted to
apologize to everyone on the list for what happened. If anyone uses curse words
and or disrespects other members of the list they will be automatically removed.
Sometimes sensitive issues may come out and although you may not agree with a
person please respect their opinions. Quite a few peopel unsubscribed today
from this list due to this behavior, just be sure that this kind of behavior
will not be tolerated and the person will be automatically removed from this
list.
My apologies again.

Sincerely

Frank

question -Reply

Sunday, January 19th, 2003

I have lots of highs during the week before my period, then I
drop low for the week I have it. I try to avoid high-fat foods
and get lots of exercise the week before, and then test
frequently and keep juice handy during the week of. And I
try to remember that hormones are rotten little
troublemakers and don’t get too worked up when I get an
unsatisfactory reading. Most of diabetes is attitude, so I
think positive and try to make the right choices without
becoming a martyr and I am healthier than all of my
non-diabetic friends.

question

Friday, January 17th, 2003

Hi! Does anyone else have a problem with blood sugars going haywire
close to the time of their menstrual period? I had 1 insulin reaction
yesterday, and then 2 more while I was asleep-I’ve probably gained 2
extra pounds from having to eat extra food!! Any suggestions? This is a
problem for me every month!

letter

Tuesday, January 14th, 2003

Well, am I the only one, or does anyone else have a problem with the 42
inch tubing on the soft-set QR of a minimed 506 insulin pump? It seems
like my blood sugars are always high when I use the 42 inch tubing-I
imagine it’s because the insulin has to go through all that tubing
before it gets to your body! I switched to the 24 inch, and am doing a
lot better. Lately though, the company that I get my supplies from has
started sending me the 42 inch, and it’s the same to me as not even
wearing the pump at all! I called them to tell them the situation, and
they told me that they quit being providers for my insurance company on
the first of june-but of course no one bothered to tell me about it! I
spent 2 hours on the phone trying to find someone to mail me my pump
supplies before I finally found someone! Has anyone else had problems
like that?

Mini Med vs Disetronic

Tuesday, January 14th, 2003

>To you what is the advantage of the disetronic over the mini med?>

Gail,

I love the Disetronic pump because you get a backup pump so for the price of
one pump you get two. When I had Mini Med my pump needed to be serviced and
I had to return to shots while it was sent off and reparied. With the
Disetronic if something goes wrong I send in my pump and put my settings
into the new pump and put it on, my therapy is not interrupted. Another
reason is that the Disertronic pump is also waterproof and I don’t have to
take it off when I want to swim or even shower. I have had the Disetronic
pump going on three years now and I have not had one occlusion that whole
time, I had them several times with the Mini Med. Another advantage is that
Disetronic pumps are set at the manufacturers to peep at you every 24 months
telling you you need to send it in to have a technical inspection so that it

New to list

Monday, January 13th, 2003

Hi,

My name is Jenny, I got word of this list from Gail, thanks Gail. I am an
insulin pump user. I have had a pump for five years. I started out with the
Mini Med which I had for two years. When I became pregnant I was switched to
the Disetronic pump, I love it. I have had diabetes for 24 for years. I am
the mother of six children, four living. I feel blessed to have my pump, it
has changed my life and given me a better quality in my opinion. I hope to
get to know some of you and just talk about every day diabetic happenings.

Still shopping - aka: which pump and why?

Saturday, January 11th, 2003

Greetings folks,

I find myself in the position of needing to make a decision as to which CSII
device I should pick. I’ve read the marketing materials, seen the videos and
surfed the sites for both the Mini Med 507 and the Disetronic HTRONplus. But
this is just month 8 of dealing with being diabetic, so I know that I just don’t
know all the factors I ought to be taking into account with this decision.

I’m quite interested to hear how you all came to use the pump you have, any
examples of "feature envy" that the other brand has that yours does not, and
just general advice for starting up.

Pretty broad for my first post to this list, and if I’ve overlooked and obvious
resource for this sort of information, I’d love to know about it. (the
misc.health.diabetes faq is outdated on pump info, it seems)

Frank, thanks for the message. I have lost my email twice and had to change
and each time I lost my address book. I put the address in wrong, so I hope
this helps.
